A total stab in the dark.

My 15 year old has a desire to get in to IT,
and he is required to do some work experience for a week or two in the summer.

Is there an IT company in the Bolton/Blackburn area who might be willing to offer him some work experience.

Technically wise he will be very limited to I guess a lot of the work might be shadowing.

Have you tried Scan?

He may have a chance at system builds / OS installs there.

I wouldn't consider building systems for a retail outlet in any way representative of most IT roles. I don't know if there are many "IT" companies based in the area, probably better to just see if a largish company can get him into their IT department for a couple of weeks.

Probably worth understanding if he wants to be support / network engineer or a programmer. Makes quite a difference

I've looked at jobs with www.ao.com they give the impression of having a good attitude and seem to have a decent sized IT dept. (Bolton)

I was going to suggest sitting in a poorly lit room and posting on Singletrack as a way of gaining experience, but that seemed too obvious.

MSP - you are quite right - He wants to be a programmer, so no SCAN is not representative at all but any work experience could be good.

I'll try www.ao.com though.
Thx again.

I used to work for a company on Wingates called Anker systems, I think it has changed hands a few times since and changed it's focus slightly, now called Micros. Might be the sort of thing you are looking for.
