I'm trying to connect a brand new Acer Chromebook for the first time and log in to my Google account. It's a new replacement for the same model I've been using for 6 months or so but managed to wreck (keyboard/water interface scenario). The previous one worked fine.
It connects to my wifi but says the connection can't access the internet, so I can't complete the registration and Google account log in. However if I log in as a 'guest' I CAN connect to the internet.
I'm definitely using the correct log in details and have tried connecting to other networks with the same result. Other devices in the house are connected and working fine.
I called Acer tech support and they said it's a known issue with the Chrome OS also affecting other hardware manufacturers and not just in the UK - a Google issue basically and not their problem. Google online support is no help, I've tried everything they suggest up until they say "contact hardware manufacturer"!
Any ideas?
Do I just wait a day or two and see if it resolves itself? If it doesn't I have the option of sending it back but I'm hoping the Chrome OS mechanics are beavering away behind the scenes to fix it.
I've no idea if there's a known outage or other problem at the moment, but there's certainly a logic to just leaving it a bit and trying again later.
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

😄 I have!
Thanks for the reassurance that waiting for a bit is the right thing to do 👍
2FA on your Google account? Switch it off temporarily and try again.
Seems Google are aware and trying to fix it. Found the following on https://support.cloud.google.com/portal/system-status
"October 28, 2021 at 2:26:19 PM GMT+1:
We are aware of an issue with Chrome OS devices failing enrollment with a network error. Engineers are currently investigating the issue with the highest priority".
Might be worth seeing if you can check for updates while logged in as a guest.
If not, try an ethernet cable with adapter to see if you can log in properly.
Or wait for the fix

I can, it's fully up to date.

I don't have the bits to do that.

Seems like the best option. It's top of the stack of issues on the support portal and they are posting hourly updates suggesting that they are busting a gut to fix it.
