Just replaced one of the computers at work and it is running WIndows 7. I have gone in and shared a HD on that computer on the network, but when I go to connect to it from the XP 64 box through the network (it shows up OK in the network list) it asks me for a password. The admin password for the WIndows 7 box isn't recognized and I can't connect. Any ideas?
Share a directory rather than the entire HD?
Domain or P2P network? Trying to map the drive, or just connect through 'My network places'? Permissions been set correctly on the share?
Is the new machine on the domain? If so, it will need domain credentials to allow access to the drive.
Also, in Windows 7, you can go into the advanced properties of the share and set this for No Password Required Sharing... I can't remember where the setting is though (I always have to hunt for it).
If you have a lot of files that need to sit on a shared disk, it might be worth looking into a cheap NAS box (A Network Storage Device) as this would be a tidier solution and the data is always available, even when the Windows 7 machine is turned off!
Hope that this helps.

Another issue you may have, that i've found, is that with windows 7, you "need"* a user account with the same name & password on both machines for them to share drives
* by "need" I mean - it's the only way I've got it to work. There's probably a better/easier way
Thanks guys, I'll work through your suggestions
