My old laptop is running on XP64.
This evening, fired it up and I can't open internet explorer. Everything else is working, incl skype so I know its got www access.
click the link for IE and the hourglass icon briefly appears, then nothing.

I'm guessing there's some malware somewhere as i installed some freebie video editing software the other day. I've got rid of thatnow, but its obviously left the malware behnd. How can I go about cleaning it up? Annoyingly I can't download any anti-malware software as I can't get on the www. 🙁

do you have access to another computer? You can install firefox mobile onto a usb stick which you should be able to run from the broken computer

One question: What version of IE? We've had loads of problems at work with IE 10. I've found rolling it back to IE 9 fixes it.

could just be stuck in a loop; first thing i'd do is fire up task manager (ctrl&alt&del keys), then click on the "processes" tab and scroll through for any instances of "iexplore.exe", killing each one of them. then click on the "new task" button and type iexplore.exe into the box. then click OK (this will rule out a dodgy shortcut).
see how that goes...

I know the answer to this as it was common bug with XP 64 and I use to get it a lot, buggered if I can remember how it was fixed.
