Sorry is this is a bit basic...

Trying to setup a new pc for my daughter which has Windows 8 on it, she and also me, are used to Win.XP and Win.7

Can you change Windows 8 so it looks like windows 7 desktop?

I know with older Windows Os they had a classic view option, but cannot see how to do this with Win8?

Ta for any help.

I tried REALLY hard to like and get on with Win8, but got so frustrated with it I ended up buying Start8, as per the link, after a couple of weeks. Probably the best $5 I've ever spent.

Can you make Windows 7 look like XP?

We have just moved over to Win7 (stop s****ing at teh back) and it's doing my tits in.

I'm surviving on keyboard shortcuts as half the buttons I used to use no longer appear to be there or I have to go all around the houses to get anything done.

Honestly, you don't want to. W7 is a lot more usable once you get used to it.

The killer for me is the 'run' box. Forget the Start menu, whatever you want to do just hit the Windows key and start typing. Eg, for Control Panel, Win-c-o-n-t-r... oh look, there it is, hit Enter.

What buttons are you missing?

You are probably right DB

Funny thing is, I have never had this "OMG where do I start reaction" even going from Dos to Win 3.1 seemed easier.

I still miss the Win3.1 file manager 😉

Windows 8 is a pile of crap, but i have managed to get to the point where i can use it.

First if your on a laptop turn off all the gestures they are crap they don't work and only make life harder than it need be.

Once you solve that it gets better, having effectively two operating systems, WHY!!!!!!

I am quite liking my shiny new Windows 8 laptop, and slowly learning its best tricks.
It would be ace with a touch screen.
A few blips (like .pdfs saved in W8 pdf reader are not 'recognised' by our website or others computers as pdf's; or that office 2013 despite being an app button opens in desktop)

Good for you, note nobody wants to recreate Vista or ME. The rest of us are playing the Microsoft Skip a Version game.
