You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Mrs C's next significant birthday coming up. What with moving away from her friends and family and a minor international problem currently it looks like it will be me, her and the cat for someone who would naturally have a big party in normal circumstances.
I'm putting out a plea from friends and family for a bit of self filmed footage - mouthing along to a fave song and a bit of a message at the end. I'll mash it up in Premiere Pro. Bish bash, bosh, look who looks like he's made an effort and gets enough brownie points to last him a year of cock ups.
She's a bit (a lot) more popular than me so I reckon there will be about a hundred contributors. Probably all filmed on their phones and mostly total gash so I'm going to be asking for a lot more from each than will make the final edit so it is at least marginally watchable. So maybe 100meg per person.
Only snag - I don't need a bunch of horrifically compressed raw footage sent via whatsapp or facebook that will look shocking in the final edit. So what's the idiot proof method of getting 100 people with IT skills ranging from passable to utterly shocking to upload footage with the minium of faff - probably directly from their phone? I was thinking of using my google drive with a shared folder with all their email addresses added to the access rights. Is that idiot proof though from a phone? You could use a google form with an upload box but you have to have a google account to do that and I suspect that will be enough to trip up a good many. Suggestions welcome.

Never underestimate how an idiot can break software in ways you can never imagine!
Hopefully the many could perhaps handle Google Drive, and then that just leaves a few which require hand holding and/or something more special. Or is that being too optimistic?
Couldn't they just send it to you via wetransfer (free) or similar setup? I use this sending rough video clips to a colleague at work to edit for our media stuff.
WeTransfer isn't a bad call really. In theory Google Drive should just do it as would OneDrive but people tend to get stuck in their ways and get all stressed if asked to do something that isn't exactly how they've done it before. Just suggest WeTransfer and then get used to the idea of having to put up with at least 4 other ways of receiving stuff.
Bloke I know used this for his wife's birthday recently...
Not sure how amazeballs it is...
wetrasfer looks like the answer I think. No need for them to sign in or sign up and looks usable on a mobile. Never heard of it - every day's a school day.
Thanks

No! You'll have their yahoo or outlook email and google will try to log them in with their gmail account you didn't even know they had - and the average person doesn't understand...
Wetransfer does work - but I've never set up for people to send to me. I'm quite sure the technically inept will still get confused. IME the answer is to say "send me it however you want (and suggest options)" and then you deal with the disparity of solution yourside. Half the amusement for me would be the shoddy video the chopping and changing between landscape and portrait etc - unless you think people will be really good!
My cousin's wife did something similar for 50th - it was a "commercial" service aimed at exactly this sort of solution - I can't find the link anymore.
Dropbox would also work if you have an account - you can setup a folder so other people can contribute without needing an account.

Make sure to state in 10ft high bold text that videos not submitted in landscape format will be binned or you will be in a world of pain.
