Issues with EE (Mobile) Ombudsman?

Ok, so I've been with EE for 7 years on for my mobile phone etc. Last year I wanted to move from a monthly contract to a SIM only rolling contract, which I thought I got, paying £10 per month or so I thought....until last month.
I wanted to cancel the mobile as I went with a Utility Warehouse package for mobile, Broadband and Energy. Nothing was said to me about the extra costs when I cancelled either.
I received a letter today saying I owed extra as I was on a contract and it had been terminated early so i would be billed for the remaining months.
Called EE and they are not interested, they say I received a text from them with details of the costs etc. I honestly must have missed that due to house moves etc. So they aint budging on the final bill....
Is it worth complaining to the ombudsman? Will it get me anywhere? I think I was definitely mis-sold the original deal, which was all done over the phone

IANAL

But I do work in the same area (not for EE) and occasionally with our ADR scheme. First thing I'd check is what emails/letters were sent to you when you changed the package. If you took out a new contract, that should still have been sent to you in writing to make sure what you were getting is what you agreed to. EE should be able to reissue these if you can't find them. Some SIM Only deals are rolling, some are on fixed term contracts depending on the offer.

You can go to the Ombudsman but they'll usually say you need to wait 56 days before they'll investigate, unless you have a deadlock letter. I'd use that time to check your emails. Drop me a message if you'd like.

EE usually do 12 month SIM only contracts (or that’s what they always push be towards when trying to get a good deal from them). I assume this is what they think you had signed up for.
