So disappointed that Ton's favourite pie isn't "Fist"

Woeful missed opportunity there 😢

Made me smile that article. (well, apart from the inclusion of the one who seems to have disappeared again, anyway.)

I did find the article interesting.  After too many years of too many hours spent on the forum it brings home just what a different perspective you can get depending on what threads you tend to click on.  Given that I’d never thought of the term ‘big hitter’ as being used in an exactly flattering way I was a little surprised by some of the selection but not by a couple of others 😀. One name I barely recollect seeing in the forum?

So disappointed that Ton’s favourite pie isn’t “Fist”

that + disappointed Molgrips picture wasn’t ‘Captain America’ 😱

I assumed mods were deliberately not included?

Bloody Hell! You see where my personality issues lie when I though it was for the Web site, I never thought my ugly mug would be gracing the 20th anniversary mag!

To paraphrase Captain Malcolm Reynolds, I'm just too pretty for the mag.

Hey! I took that picture of molgrips! 😎

How did they curate that list? It made for a fun read. What about more forum members from time to time?

The only thing I don't like about it is that I don't have a dropper on that bike so it looks like I don't know how to get low.

Maybe you'll make it for the 40th anniversary edition.

I would say 'you and me both', but I'm far too neurotic to be counted among the big hitters.

It's good to see the mag recognising the forum a bit more again. This is the life of STW for me.

How did they curate that list?

Staff asked Moderators for suggestions then they shortlisted from there (plus maybe added their own, I'm not sure, I've not read it yet so I don't know who's on).

I noticed that tj was riding off road without a helmet and not one of you big hitters seemed to be wearing hi-viz. I didn't think that projected a very responsible image of our sport. As clear big-hitting influencers I think you should have set a better example. 😉

Haven't read it all yet but its nice to put some faces to the personalities (it'll make stalking you easier).

It's a disc race.

Well I'm at a sanctioned trail centre so I'm well away from any risks. I'm also riding a niche bike though to show that I'm a cut above the average MTBer.

That may be the case but that’s not what I pay a subscription for, I like and pay for a proper paper magazine 🤔

There's been many over the years, yes.

Can't hurt to have another if you feel so inclined, it's been a while.

I thought he was locked in Father Jack's underwear hamper with Bishop Brennan's assistant?

I’ve not had my copy arrive yet so I’ve not seen it! And I’d also forgotten that I’d written it since I’m currently trying to wrangle something together for the next issue while pretending to be on holiday. Glad you enjoyed the Big Hitters, there were so many people I could have put in, it was tough to narrow it down to just a few. Interesting to discover a few who didn’t want to break cover too!

In my experience, people are usually more interesting than bikes, but the bikes are the ice breaker. It was fun to find out a bit more about some of you. Thanks for being here.

What I'd like to know is; is there a reason half my pages are upside down, is this some cool new magazine thing I've missed or have the printers ****ed it up?

Because the mag has two front covers, one for 2001, one for 2021.

My magazine has arrived. I'm not a Big Hitter though...

We've still got the 2001 issue.

Thanks Hannah. (especially for putting up a photo of me when I was 'cough' younger).

When I see the phrase Big Hitter I only think of Al, maybe because he coined it for himself 😉

When it's written capitalised like that I cannot unsee "Big Hitler" whenever I read it. It's one of those 'speed bump' words for me, my brain always goes "What? Oh, 'hitter,' right."

It's a bit like when certain font choices run an 'r' and an 'n' together so that it looks like an 'm' at first glance, then someone writes something like "and then I'm going to take it outside and burn it."

What's the opposite of a Big Hitter, a Small Tapper? If so then then I think I'm one of them.

I am however possibly partially responsible for Northwind being the Big Hitter he is today. Or at least for him hitting bigly here, rather than somewhere else.

At Paddington I saw a poster advertising the movie Burn After Reading. Made my commute to Didcot feel a bit high risk.
