I've got a thing for lightning pictures, I had this on my wall as a kid - one of the most famous (or at least, one of the most reproduced) pictures of lightning ever, it was in National Geographic.

what the hell is that?

Can't remember the name, but isn't it the only creature that can survive in the vacuum of space?

Well this is what I've learnt today:

Tardigrades can withstand temperatures from just above absolute zero to well above the boiling point of water. They can survive pressures greater than any found in the deepest ocean trenches and have lived through the vacuum of outer space. They can survive solar radiation, gamma radiation, ionic radiation— at doses hundreds of times higher than would kill a person. They can go without food or water for nearly 10 years, drying out to the point where they are 3% or less water, only to rehydrate, forage, and reproduce.

Waterbears = hard as f...

Tardigrades are gangster. Quite possibly the weirdest looking thing I've ever seen...

Except perhaps Mrs Danny 😉

Tardigrades are seriously weird, and about as alien as you can get. Goes to show that life can form under the most unlikely circumstances, so the possibility of it being found on exoplanets seems ever more likely.

Took this on my ancient compact using the macro function - it's that tiny yellow lichen / fungus stuff that grows on tree branches...

Mechmonkey they're both magic, but one of them needs soaked in milk for a few months to leech the poison out before drying. The other you can just shove down your neck...
