Been noticing less communication this week. Here's to two weeks of quieter times.

Yip.. Change freezes and seasonal customer lethargy are always good.. Can slowly clear some backlog.

That's the best thing about Christmas!

Yep, noticeably quieter today, traffic better too.

It’s that strange thing, clients who expect, nay demand immediate responses any other time if the year, seem happy to wait a fortnight for anything now, in fact would prefer it that way.

It was, at least until a French KAM decided the customer absolutely must have a fully detailed coating this side of Xmas. They’ve probably already broken up alert.

Virtually everything in builder land goes up in price in the new year. Concrete 7.50 a cube frinstance, so the term we've got to get it done for Christmas is our very own ring fence the unicorn type saying at the moment. Everybody is in till Friday on my site but hoping for an early finish, soon as yard concrete is done I think we'll be locking up....

Nope, not here,
If anything I’m getting more “ urgent “ requests for work to be done yesterday ,
It’s almost as though folks want to clear their desks of all the little jobs they couldn’t be ar .... err .. were too busy to do .... before going off for a break

Maybe less email traffic, but one of our major clients is going to be issuing a very large tender on Christmas Eve......hoping the return date doesn't turn out to be 2nd Jan

Big tender we are involved with has had submission date pushed back to mid Jan as there were issues with tenderers completing submissions before Christmas. Still getting a few calls on that one.
Otherwise fairly quiet apart from one client who always seems to have loads of little jobs that need doing this time of year but can’t just call or email once with a list...

Local government does this quite a lot. I once had a stand up row when I asked for an extension, which led to an admission of “Well, this way we can all go on Hols for Christmas and come back to find some completed tenders to be getting on with”. Don’t they all think we’d like some time with our families?

Personally I think its a rude and inconsiderate practise.

I've just started a job as a contractor and struggling to get responses or info so I can actually do some work. If I was going to sit around twiddling my thumbs I'd have signed up as an employee!

Yes and no.

No because (as ever) I’ve got a deal to finish this week.

Yes because ever since I resigned I’ve become persona non grata. Which suits me fine..!

Can't say I've noticed - private sector here. There'll be a bunch waiting for me from the US people this morning too.

I'm not actually sure there was any point even turnning the laptop on today.

Rather disappointingly my middle East clients aren't really doing much winding down for Christmas, so no not really.

I work in a tech company and almost no one emails each other here, we're all in one office and we speak to each other or use slack, which is great.

Overall traffic of communications is down though, there's a lot of empty desks around and we are off for 2 weeks from Friday afternoon, it's going to be a lovely relaxing Christmas break. Next year will be busy though!

I regularly issue tenders for a Government organisation, we would never do this, what would be the point? The return would be next to useless. I’ve never heard of anyone insisting on such nonsense.

China don't appear to be winding down and the rush is on to get contracts signed and orders in before year end.

I'm countering the stress by WFH with the pup sleeping on my feet and doing really odd hours.

Yes it's mostly a private sector thing, a couple of weeks a year we can relax a bit. If you are in the public sector, there will be no difference to any other week, you lot skive all year round.

I'm struggling to find enough work to do in order to avoid doing any Christmas shopping.

Yeah right Rene. I'd bet my house y couldn't stand the pressure that folk like me, Drac, v8
ninty, bregante etc work under

For many of us Christmas week is not only another working week but the busiest working week of the year

I'll have you know I work at least 8 hours a week, most weeks. Don't talk to me about pressure!
