Quite like the idea of going. Anyone been?
Would prefer to take the car over but just guess a quick check on ferry prices - 2 people in one car for a week from Liverpool - over £550!
Yes !
I like it there. It's very pretty and there's quite a lot to do.
Weather can be very changeable though.
It's a bit like the UK in minature. The TT of course is brilliant, other motorcycle events during the summer too.
Cheaper to fly and hire a car ?
TT is the last week in May and the first week in June, is that when you searched for ferry prices ? Will be very expensive then if not sold out altogether.
Bollocks - that’s when I was looking to go.
Plan B - The Lakes!
If you can go a couple of weeks later have a look at Longest Day/Longest Ride
Go and see the TT, it is truly awesome if you've never seen it before. The island really comes to life for those two weeks. Surpised you found any availability for the ferry then in any case.
They have an MTB race in September, the Manx End to End.
I've been a few times,I like the place.
This year will be the third consecutive year I've gone to the TT. I go with some mates & we take pushbikes, the bikes go free on the ferry.
There are other motorcycle races besides the TT,here's some info;
There's also the Classic TT/Manx GP week.I went for the first time last year & I'm going back for the week this year,it's a better atmosphere than the TT.

if you want to enter a mountain bike event there's the E2E in September,it's a few years since I last did it so I'm not sure what it's like these days,no doubt someone on here could let you know.
HTH
We are off there tomorrow (second year running for kid's bike race).
Worth a visit, we have only seen a tiny bit of it but it is quite quaint.
We are paying £239 for the ferry (Vito van) and staying in self catering cottage.
Grab one of the parking dial things on the ferry and take some Sterling £10 notes, any IOM change you get given is not Sterling and cannot be used on the mainland.
Went there about 10 years ago and had a really enjoyable time, but it was early May and pretty quiet. However, now heard it's increasingly dog-unfriendly and so haven't been bothered to go back. Some dick-head drivers too - every week some loon totals themselves on some back-road - some see cycling on the TT course as an affront to their existence.
I've lived here for the last 3 years and love it. Beautiful scenery, nice beaches, good fishing and excellent mountain biking trails on the doorstep (road too if you're that way inclined). People are friendly and some of the local (Hooded Ram) beer is top class!
TT week I can live without. The island is invaded by Micheal Dunlop/Guy Martin etc wannabees who can't handle their Superbikes above 60mph. If it was just themselves they killed I wouldn't be bothered but innocent and law abiding drivers are too often caught up in the mess. I'll be renting my house out this year and using the money to have a holiday in Portugal!
I have a dog and have never experienced a problem
You've absolutely made the right choice with Plan B
Isle of Man... Isle of White .... same difference and I stupidly made the mistake of paying over £300 quid to go to/stay in england by going to IoW once.
Never again... it's nowt special and neither is IoM
Good luck
Yes, trust me: worth of it! 🙂
How strange to compare the Isle of Wight with the Isle of Man , although they are both small islands they are very different and The Isle of Man has some unique attractions and plenty to do if you enjoy the great outdoors . I'm biased as I moved here 20+ years ago from England and love it

Well, I’m biased too, because I’m Manx. If you like doing stuff outdoors it’s a pretty good place - especially plenty of good riding. With all due respect, I don’t really see where Dovebiker’s coming from with his comments about it being not dog-friendly. Plenty of friends of mine have dogs and I’ve not heard them complaining. As for dick-head drivers - aren’t they a small minority everywhere? And no - they’re not “totalling themselves every week on some back road”.
I don’t know where this stuff comes from but I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t slightly piss me off.
