I'm going to the IoM for 1 day. Will I have trouble spending IoM pounds when I'm back on the mainland? If I can't spend them will the banks swap them for regular money?

Nah, can't use them on the mainland. Change them at an IoM bank before returning, or try and stick wholly to UK notes whilst there.

The cash machines at the ferry terminal in Douglas give out UK notes.
I've had trouble before with IOM money and had to change it for UK notes at a bank when I was back home.
