No. 1 spawn announced this morning that the electric shower isn’t working properly.

It’s an Aqualisa unit, what happens is that it cycles from a feeble flow, to kettle noises, to a decent/normal flow, then shuts off, then the whole cycle restarts.

Anyone any ideas what’s going on, is it potentially repairable, or am I looking at replacement? If the latter, is it likely to be the plumber, the electrician or both?

Thanks all!

It sounds borked.  Not sure whether I’d rather have a plumber messing with electrics or a spark messing with water myself 😂.

Seriously though, they’re not that hard to DIY, but if you’re not up to the task a reasonably competent plumber would be my shout.

Is there a filter mesh on the inlet that might need clearing perhaps?

Airlock is worth looking into as well. There is a walk through of how to fix that on their website iirc from when ours had a wobble.

I’ve changed around 500 electric showers. Its knackered, get a new one. They can be repaired, but the parts are expensive, other things can be on their way out too, so it is usually sensible to get a new one rather than try to fix an old one.

To save difficulty fitting it, try to get one of the same make/model. If you cant get one, look at where the water and cable come in, and try to get one that has the same internal layout, and, it should be a straight swap, whcih can be done in 15 minutes or less.

You can get replacement showers that are designed to be flexible, ie you can choose where the pipework comes in. Last time I had to buy one I got one from Screwfix, something like this https://www.screwfix.com/p/triton-t80-easi-fit-white-chrome-9-5kw-electric-shower/5766t

Fairly easy to do - main issue is finding the water cut off for the feed, otherwise it's off at the mains.

If it's a house supply off job install one of these in the pipework feeding the shower for the next time.

Aye, pay someone else to do it. You completely overestimate my lack of skill or interest in DIY 😛
