A resident at a Wisconsin nursing home died a few days after his foot was amputated by a nurse.
I'm overwhelmed with bewilderment, she didn't have his consent, it wasn't ordered by a doctor and she wanted to display the foot in her family's taxidermy shop

I wouldn't of thought that a nurse would be sure footed enough to perform this type of surgery. If this goes to court I don't think the nurse will have a leg to stand on... oh, hang on a minute...

I'm sure she watched a couple of Youtube videos before chopping away. I think we've all had enough of so-called experts from Big Scalpel telling us what to do.

The man's foot had been hanging on by a tendon or two, and perhaps by a bit of skin, according to the records.

thats not really amputation

I have seen a foot that was necrotic and half of it just fell off when we changed the dressing. We then cleaned up other necrotic tissue from around the wound including manually removing it

Thats not to say I would have done what that nurse did.

Looks like an awful lot more went on that was badly wrong than just removing some necrotic tissue

I'm calling BS on this. You can't do taxidermy to a necrotic foot. IANAT

IANAT

Even on this amazing forum with its diverse knowledge and experience, that has to be a first!

Causation.
Correlation.
Shrug.

Still I also ANAT… though I used to cycle past Get Stuffed on my commute through Islington many years ago.

I don't get it. So his foot was literally hanging by a thread and he wasn't in hospital, just bandaged up in a nursing home??
Surely gangrene would have set in at the very least?
No wonder the home is under investigation.
