Just received a text from MSFT which tells me my Microsoft account may have been hacked, quoting the correct email address with asterisks for some of the letters. It tells me to recover the account at http://account.live.com.
This sounds a bit fishy to me, anybody had any experience of this sort of thing?
It seems a bit unlikely that MSN would communicate by text!

Looks good to me (same site is listed as the 4th option of a micrsoft log-in search), if you've registered your mobile number with them (normal for security checks) , then why not expect a TXT from them? Login via your normal link and change your password...

Well, account.live.com is a legit MS site.

But this isn't:

If there is some spoofing going on, go direct to the Microsoft site by typing in the URL, rather than hitting a link you're not sure of.

It's not a scam,I was hacked on Friday, msft txt me with the same msg,do you have any emails from friends that say "important" if you opened it then that would prompt them to txt you, good way of knowing if someone is trying to use your hotmail acc.

But this isn't:

Agreed, but I figured such spoofing was unlikely as the message was on an SMS.

So , I tried to reset the account and ticked the option that says MSN will text you a code to do this , which they did. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work so now I am going round in circles trying to get them to send me a code that works!

Yeah, MS hotmail password resets can be a bugger but you will get there. Really don't talk to me about my friends who registered a dummy telephone number and email address that had died as there alternative contact info and I was expected to 'deal' with it...
