TuneIn radio on your phone if you have enough data.
Otherwise, I assume you can buy portable dab radios...?

Or TuneIn radio for any station at all. IPlayer radio app is excellent if you only want Beeb though.

Streaming radio uses a lots of bandwidth, there still really isn't enough bandwidth on 3G for useful things like facebook and porno, wheras there's lots of bandwidth on FM just for inane chatter interupted by short bursts of music. 6 music should really be available on FM - they can sack radio 3 if needs be.

Alternatively you can always develop your own musical taste and put some music on your device.

Try that sunshine and you will be killed to death in a painful and imaginative manner by an army of very, very polite middle aged people like me. 😀

Radio 6 is good, but it's just a longer version of this:

with interruptions fom people you'd like to punch repeatedly in the face.

The radio, yer actual RADIO radio, is for Radio 4, Radio 3 and the few remaining listenable bits of 5Live that aren't contaminated by Kermode, Mayo, Bacon or Campbell.

When will the BBC please wake up and realise that FM is for motorists and commuters and specialist programming just makes it worse.

Radio 3

Uses a sickening amount of the FM spectrum and is hardlly the best format for listening to those 15 hour concerts or whatever the hell it is. I heard a theory that it's just the code they use to control the stock market.

Unlimited data

just because you have an unlimited data contract doesn't mean that there is unlimited amounts of bandwidth to play with. ever struggled to download a picture of a kitten - that's the fault of somebody using their 3g phone to listen to radio or spotify, sure as damnit.

It's by far the best format. 😀
Sound quality on FM is far better than the current quality of DAB.

Almost right - Radio 1 is just a code used to control da yoot. 🙂
If you play Annie Mac's voice backwards you just hear '....conform......conform.....conform.......'

Thanks for the replies. Will give Tunein and BBC app a try. @oliverd1981 if you text me when you are trying to download a kitten pic I'll be sure to switch it off right away for you!

What? I should limit my use based on what other people might be doing or what their requirements might be; downloading pron, watching silly Americans/Russians/insert other nationality crash their cars on Youtube, updating Faceache with lame videos that no one cares about, downloaded mid-week movies?
Screw that. If I wanna listen to French Pop music over the internetz via my phone, I jolly well will. FWIW I always switch to the lowest stream size. Does that make it any better for you?

If it's that much of an issue, ask YouTube to go back to 640x480 video rather than HD.

I heard that if you play Nick Grimshaw's voice backwards it sounds like a pathetic, whiny girl. Or is that when you play it forwards? I can't remember.

If 3g does not work out then I can recommend the Roberts sportsDAB2

Great reception and battery life - £80 well spent.

A bit - the thing with videos is, they end. Internet radio uses data all of the time, and yeah it has a major detrimental effect on people who just want a nice smooth flow of textual content.

Digital and internet radio should be the kick in the backside that FM, and the BBC in particular need to improve their services.

I got a 2Gb MP3 player with built-in DAB tuner from Amazon (forget the 'brand' now for ~£50 specifically to listen to 6M and PlanetRock ont he move. Takes a single AA and lasts ages. Reception on the move can be a bit hit-and-miss, but generally OK.
