Facially, she is technically pretty. However she should wear an inflatable lectern so we don't get to see the hips and all that.

Will johnson act against patel or just waffle on for a bit before saying...it's business as usual?
I wonder what Philip Rutnam will do or say? I hope he continues with his constructive dismissal claim against patel - she deserves it.

Johnson will do nothing. He only asked them to support him, and be prepared to push through a no deal Brexit, nothing else matters.

Things like this don’t matter anymore. Politicians like Patel and BoJo have realised that they can basically get away with anything. Ministers don’t resign anymore. They just ignore it and the voting public let them off without challenge.

It should be a big deal- but even wind the clock back a few years and she'd just resign for about 4 minutes and then return. I mean, it's nothing on the windrush scandal and look how that turned out- Rudd quit in disgrace in April 2018, returned to the cabinet 7 months later.

But these days it doesn't even register.

Cleverly on question time basically not saying bullying is wrong. Just in case she's been bullying and someone holds him to his comments.

Report has watered down

It sounds worse than that. Too much evidence of her bullying to bury it… so they’re blaming the civil servants for not telling her directly so that she could moderate herself. Literally victim blaming.

But these days it doesn’t even register.

Aye, shut down Parliament illegally, allow a senior advisor to break lock down without penalty, pass a law allowing themselves the privilege of breaking inconvenient international agreements, multi million pound contracts for your mates, Jobs for your unqualified wives and husbands...

A bit of light breaking the ministerial code from a woman who once ran her own parallel foreign policy hardly matters at all really.

We've become a 3rd world banana republic with posh voices.

I can't disagree with any of the above.

When you've basically watered down the job requirements for the cabinet into loyalty to Brexit (I.e. a combination of stupidity, cynicism and nastiness), then you can't be surprised when someone like Patel exhibits those 'qualities'.

This is the logical conclusion of having your flagship (only real overall) policy as something driven by....... stupidity, cynicism and nastiness.

She will stay and this will be presented as 'some plaster coming off of the ceiling as a thrusting young politician with real ambition challenges the status quo' or somesuch crap. Sigh.

This, couldn't be clearer cut, the last thing that stops bullying is the victim telling the bully to stop.

Many years ago I used to attach crocodile clips onto a boy's blazer at school, and we all had a good laugh at him when he got angry.

I didn't know it was bullying, but it was and I got my comeuppance from the head teacher. Claiming I didn't know was no excuse.

Patel is a bully and should be sacked.

Highly stratified societies (caste, apartheid, class) produce those 'at the top' who aggressively disdain and dismiss not just other people's opinions but other people too. Why, therefore, would you ever expect to be held to account by a minion? Parvenus like PP or IDS are likely to amplify these attributes to establish their class credentials without realising that the Etonians still regard them as something like an irritation on the sole of their shoe or a entertainingly exotic pet.

Patel is a bully and should be sacked.

But she won't be sacked. It is literally how she has got to where she is.

In the same way that Johnson won't lose anything by lying. Because that is, 100%, the reason he is there in the first place.

We are dealing with a top echelon here who have breached that final level of trust - namely that those appointed to positions of power hold themselves to high standards because 'the system' cannot always do it.

You just have to look at some of the corrupt post-colonial african 'strong men' to see it:

Aide: Err, Mr President, sir. You can't actually do that, the law prevents you.

President: I'll change the law, then.

Aide: You won't get it through parliament.

President: I'll declare a state of emergency, then.

Etc. Etc.

Precisely. Trump did it. Poundshop Trump had a go at something similar.

This is what people mean when they say democracy is fragile. If you have cynical shits who are willing to chip away at it for their own ends, it is not a given. Not by any means.

This is the danger of arseholes like Johnson. They always think they are being clever and the genie can always be put back in the bottle.

I headed over the Daily Wail to gauge the thinking of the great British voting public. The comments section is a barometer of measured, considered and fair thinking.

Apparently, this isn't her fault, "Priti's frustration is born out of having to deal with the anti-British pro EU civil servants who still take their orders from that EU cesspit and globalist masters" (upvoted 1353 times)

and

"She should get a warning about not keeping her repeated promises to stop the dinghies" (upvoted 590 times)

In true spirit of fairness though, I was also struck by the fact that the two best rated comments were both saying that she is useless.

Priti Patel is sorry if you feel that you’ve been deported.

And today Priti Patel is sorry if her behaviour has upset you. Not sorry for her behaviour though of course, it is your problem if it upset you.

Come on, this was never going to nudge her out of the cabinet.
Upsetting pubic servants will always play well to the core audience...

To actually get rid of her, you'd need HD video footage of her laughing maniacally, while machine-gunning Refugee's in the middle of the channel, even then it would only be marginal...

By quite rightly being disgusted at the behaviour of the tories about this, (one of many) episode, by referring to Patel as

You're pretty much whispering behind her back, which is akin to bullying, just without being brave enough to do it to someone's face.

You wouldn't need to, just a gentle shove and the silly old piss artist would be sprawling.

Next up, little Matty Handjob getting all 'aggro short man syndrome', but you could just do the hand on the top of the head whilst he swings ineffectually thing on him. He'd give up quick and play the sympathy card. Saying how unfair it is.

After Handjob, it is 'Honest Bob' Jenrick. He'll just offer you a tenner on the quiet if you'll leave it alone. Tell him to shove it up his corrupt arse and he'll run away.

Finally it is 'sweaty of forehead and pulsing of vein' Raab. He'll stare at you threateningly and make all sorts of dire promises. He's easy to get past, though. Just say you'll offer to fight him tomorrow at Britain's most important seaport. He'll be out of the way as he catches the overnight train to Mallaig.

Unfortunately the Prittster doesn't need any of them. Her venom and bile will kill you before you get within insult range. She'll then use her alien ovipositor to inject your body with clones of herself which will feed on your body in their larval stage.

The thing I fail to understand is why Johnson thinks saving her sorry hide is worth the political capital he's burnt through, when her position is clearly untenable.

Thought the Tory MPs who queued up to defend her on social media may be feeling a bit foolish now it's been leaked she'll be out come the new year reshuffle…

@MoreCashThanDash Yes, you’d think he’d have learned from the Barnard Castle Eye Test fiasco.

It is worth remembering, they really don't care what you or anyone else thinks. They have the power and the sweet sweet money will just keep coming their way. Sacked or voted out they'll coin it in.

I vote for anybody that would bring in legislation that would keep MPs honest and stop profiteering.

Boris is a terrible judge of this kind of thing. Choosing which battles to fight. Look at the incredible amount of political capital he expended on defending Cummings and keeping him in place? And for what? So he could watch him resign months later after having a spat with the PM's girlfriend.

It will never come. The average member if the 'great' british public will happily fight a stranger for a bag of Orzo pasta (which they had never heard of beforehand) - well I say 'fight' I mean snatch from their trolley whilst they're not looking.

But thinking about why it might be happening, maybe questioning their voting intentions?

Not a chance. Tell them it's all down to dirty foreigners and scroungers and it's job done. Wrap the message in a union jack just to be sure.

what is it about that the like?

There not much point in focusing on the strengths, intelligence, appearance of individual politicians although some rightly attract derision and ridicule. They are there to represent class interests (not ours) and are eminently replaceable. They do and will get handsomely rewarded for what they, Cummings got a 40k rise on being sacked. The focus on individual qualities implies that there's someone on the benches who is smarter, more charming/upper middle class and better looking who will do a better job. They will only do a better job in terms of presentation and concealment as they will still be actively representing their class interests.
Having said that, I'd love to see one of the resident ST statisticians compile the correlations between voting patterns, deceit, ugliness, dress sense, height and weight and averaged out we would presumably get the mean archetypes like Francois, Patel and Johnson.

Not surprising to me. Would have typically been brought up in privileged middle class household, went to nice school, good grades to get onto medicine and then earn £100K a year.
They are a GP for their own benefit rather than yours.

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread in light of our beloved Home Secretaries latest escapades. For her latest photo-op, she's been accompanying police as they raid the premises of suspected people traffickers and illegal immigrants.

https://twitter.com/pritipatel/status/1395329315198455812?s=20

Clearly enjoying herself as she looks even smugger than usual.

She's going to be causing all manner of confusion with the gammons. She's brutally harsh on immigrants, but she's also... you know....

The tough approach on people traffickers is a bit of a front really.

She is the lowest of the low. Willing to ruthlessly target societies most vulnerable, and whomever her bosses deem unworthy, just to claw her way up in an institution that she thinks will reward her, when it actually hates her.
It's as pathetic as it is evil.

The low hanging fruit of illegal immigration, when non-existent border controls exposed the entire population to hugely unnecessary covid risk.
10,000 people coming into the country every day, for an entire year, before any kind of feeble border controls were introduced...but yeah, it's the 8,000 a year illegal immigrants that are the problem.

What's your bar for 'success'? She's Home Secretary, there's literally only one job higher than hers in government (officially, though perhaps Chancellor is more prestigious).
