Finally  onboard with the idea of getting one so before boring everyone with questions thought I'd ask.

Cheers.

We just got one in the prime day sales after many moons of wondering. I've got to say it's been great. Dual zone ninja.

For us it means not using a full oven (crap one in a rented house) for every little thing. Plus it's quicker and cheaper on the electric.

So far we've had steaks (house not stunk out and less mess), wedges and chips (homemade), chicken kebab/ fajita stuff, calzone pizza, roast med veg, and planning on jacket pots for tea.

There are a few.

However, the answer is a Ninja Foodie Multicooker. Brilliant.

Large dual zone Ninja here. Not used crappy gas oven since we bought it. Brilliant things.

There was a thread at some point a while back.

Cosori 4.7l here.

I'm an air fryer evangelist. Brilliant things.
Actively avoid using the oven now if I can and use the air fryer a lot.
Very handy.

Charlie had a recipe for cheesy balls a while back.

Cheesy balls

Wife brought one at the start of winter last year, Instantpot thing that’s also a slow cooker, pressure cooker etc etc, I thought it was a bit of a gimmick but I’ve been really impressed. Jacket spuds are great done in it as are chips. I’m really enjoying making my own breaded chicken strips in it.

I was thinking of getting the Cuisinart TOA60U Air Fryer & Mini Oven after looking at various reviews.  By comparison to many other brands, this one has less plastic.

😂 I know, but man it was so much less hassle than doing three in the griddle pan and all the spattering and smoke and amazingly came out medium rare how we like it.

Brilliant things although Id say you do need to decide between the rack or basket designs. We went rack design with the Tower Xpress Pro 11L as here: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/1247477?clickPR=plp:7:17

Its been ace and has come down in price by £40 since we bought last year

We bought a cheap tower - bike like the one Nuke posted. It was great for the two of us. Baked potatoes come out really well. It's going back to Uni with our lad who is now bored of pot noodles, but still finds cooking with more than one receptacle a bit challenging 😉

We 'upgraded' to the Sage Oven which does lots of other stuff as well (and does it really well). It's also a brilliant air frier. When the offspring aren't at home, we barely use our big range cooker. Especially as now we've had it professionally cleaned. I've banned the family from making their normal mess on it!

What @gobuchul said, though TBF we’ve almost entirely used ours as an overpowered rice cooker (which is does very well), and occasional chips.

Need to have a go at some other stuff with it…

I got a tefal 9 in 1 and hardly use the oven or grill on the cooker now. seems like a great piece of kit

Did try a steak in it and it came out very poorly.

Ninja dual zone big air fryer here, had it for about a month. It's great for knocking things up quickly but need to get the hang of it properly so we can have something a bit more varied than chips.

Parents have a Ninja 15-in-1 thing and they very rarely use the oven or hob now.

We have a Moulinex Cookeo all in one pressure cooker thing with an air fryer attachment, don't use the oven at all anymore.

Very versatile and much cheaper to run than using the oven. Also, easier to clean.

I picked up a Ninja Speedi Rapid a few months back, it is most excellent. (No experience with the alternatives to compare)

Listened to a Drs Kitchen podcast the other week and he made the argument about energy payback v a expensive air fryer, it's gonna need to last a few years to get even.

I'm kind of on the fence but I'm specing a kitchen soon and have in mind to go cheaper on the cooker and put £200 into an air fryer when buying

It’s not just the economic payback though, it’s also a quality of life thing. Much quicker and easier for (re-)heating up small things, also much better chicken (skin), good for things like sausages and oven chips.

mine was only 40 quid though, 200 would be harder to justify.

Thanks will have a look at those.

Another reason for getting one is the oven cleaning.  The double oven is a pain to clean and if that can be made much easier with cleaning an airfryer instead then why not.

Absolutely. The Ninja multi cookers have a big pot, with a couple of racks and a basket.

Depending on what you are using it for, you just either wipe them clean or put hem in the dishwasher.

The answer for great steak every time is sous vide. I don’t eat the stuff but doing it sous vide and then finishing with a quick sear makes it easy to do as much as needed, get it seared and plated quickly, and the results seem well-received.

Would you be able to cook a family sized pie from the supermarket and some roast potatoes in an air fryer?

Not mine, it’s much more a 1-2 person thing. Larger models are available though.

We could easily get rid of our oven for the once every blue moon it gets used.

The air fryer is used every day. I cooked a full ‘fry up’ breakfast in ours this morning. You really can do pretty much everything in them. We’ve got the Cosori one, which is brilliant and if you get on the Facebook users groups then there are absolutely loads of tips and recipes for getting the most out of them

I succumbed a couple of weeks ago and got one. Agree with everyone else here, it’s great. I see it as a small, better designed oven. Ire clearly more than that too, but I’m getting used to it. Current favourite is the ability to turn a sweet potato into spicy potato wedges in less than 10 mins. Healthy (ish) and importantly more convenient than junk food so gets used.

It’s usually just me, but sometimes me and my 10yr old twins, so I went for the dual zone Ninja Foodi one, so both flexible in terms of volume of food cooked and also able to cook two separate items at different temps and times which makes life easier.

I gave mine away, just wasn't using it. It's more convenient in some ways than using the oven but not in others. For a start it's more cleaning, if I'm doing something like oven chips that's just foil on a baking tray, no washing up whereas you need to wash up the air fryer basket after. Also with the aforementioned chips I don't even need to turn them, just leave them in the oven for 25 minutes whilst I watch TV - whereas an air fryer I have to keep going back to the kitchen and shaking the basket.

I also only had a fairly small Ninja one but even for just me it was inconvenient if I had a couple of different things to cook, trying to stack them etc. (it didn't come with any shelves in the basket other than the one that sits in the base.

Mostly I was disappointed it didn't seem to cook anything better, just slightly faster. Admittedly I didn't go through a vast range of recipes (but tried more than just chips :p ). I might actually get a fancier 14/15-in-1 version in the future as they seem a bit more versatile.

My missus bought one a couple of years ago, it's a big (arguably too big) multifunctional job.

I tend to be the default user because she's terrified of it for some reason. It often subs in for the (gas) oven now because it has sufficient capacity and gets up to temp much faster.

The pressure cooker and slow cooker functions are useful and we we even made cupcakes in it.

The only thing I would suggest is consider the place it's going to live in your kitchen, including access to things like swing open tops and where accessories are likely to be stored. Clattering about looking for a wire rack and the pressure cooker lid in a cupboard is annoying, and ours being top opening means it can't sit neatly below wall mounted cupboards...

The newer two drawer jobs look good but have fewer functions I think.

I'm scuzzy as hell and wash mine occasionally when I think about it, doubt it's more than once a fortnight.

A bit of BBQ sauce on the pecan danish (and vice versa) is hardly going to kill you. It's not like it's blue-green algae 🙂

We've got the dual Ninja 7.5l. Get the 9l if you have space. Cant fit a chicken in ours for example

Love it though. Bacon and chicken wings are amazing

We upgraded our Instant Pot to one that does air frying too, wouldn't give up yet more counter space to separates.

It does decent chips (tried a triple-cook recipe last night that was great if faffy), it's good for quickly doing veg nuggets or waffles or whatever for the kids tea, it's a bit too small for whole-family cooking. I can see the appeal of the Ninja Max if you use it a lot for family stuff. Not tried too much else in there but I do need to try Charlie's balls.

So, thinking again about which one lol.

I'd like to be able to do a roast chicken/joint of meat with roast tatties at the same time.

So looking for a suitably sized fryer -

One large drawer with removable divider?

One with a large & small drawer?

One of those with the rotisary, can you do roasties at the same time in tray at the bottom?

Cheers

Just bought a Ninja speedi, put rice, pasta, veggies in the bottom to steam then air fry the chicken etc on a top rack. 20 mins later perfectly cooked rice and veg and juicy chicken on top. No pressure cooker but it does have standard air fry, bake, slow cook, sear, sous-vide etc. cleans up a dream with just a wash. Still in the honeymoon period but all good so far. Steak on Saturday night was good too-sorry to offend the steak purists!

@granny_ring the Ninja Dual Zone one has two drawers so can do a full chicken and roasties. There two sizes, we have the bigger one which you'll need if there's more than two of you.

I'm sure there's others that have two compartments but I'm just doing the recommend what you have thing.

We've put a pretty big chicken in ours. It's one of these: https://www.sageappliances.com/uk/en/products/ovens/bov860.html which is pretty expensive, but is fantastic at all the things it claims it can do.

Can handle a roast for 2.

Cosori 5.5L XXL is only £88 on Amazon at the moment, usually over £100. Absolute Bargain. Great machine.

Never cooked steak in it though because, well that's just stupid.

We use ours a fair bit. In essence they are just a small oven, nothing more, nothing less. We have a Ninja. I am not convinced by the build quality.

Its great for processed food / high fat food.

The trick is getting the right balance of heat and fan speed because there is so much less space than in a conventional oven, it does take a fair bit of experimenting to get it right which is faffy.

We do chicken dinners in it. But then there are times we will do it in the oven when we want Yorkshires. To be fair the roast spuds and stuffing comes out nicer in the oven

Its a shame they don’t have induction hob on this table too

I have an Actifry. It's ace but was expensive.

If it died tomorrow I'd replace it with a Ninja.

We've got one of those round glass ones with a halogen element.
In the instructions it says not to cook items in foil. All the videos we've seen on the you tube they use it.
Will we die if we do?
