As above. I am traveling up to Glasgow area from Dorset next month and was wondering if there was some website that would off me the chance to cut some of my fuel cost by offering to take a load as my van will only be half full both ways.
I am happy to do ride share but I will be leaving at odd times in both directions so it's harder to get people to sync in with my timings but I could pickup a parcel a few hours before or a day before etc easier.
Theres sites like AnyVan and two others I forget the name of - a bit like eBay they're reviews/trust based so possibly problematic if you're a rookie /one off
Unless its genuinely a mates/share the ride deal then your van insurance probably doesn't currently cover 'hire and reward'.
Goods in Transit insurance prob a good idea too - and users of those sites above would expect it
That said.... if you wouldn't mind a little diversion into Birmingham on your way north and picking up a metric shit ton of Katlama for me. 🙂
I've only used it to get things moved but you could try registering on Shiply and seeing if anything fits in with your plans. I think they charge commission on any jobs you get though.
I was thinking the website would have good insurance sorted as part of their fees but the van insurance is another matter you are correct.
Maybe try hard for a lift share thing.
Katlama? Looks like some kind of chapati type flat bread. May be possible to do a diversion (I do M6 straight through) but I will be driving up in the evening so marginal as to when cash and carry places close.

it is so, so much more.
🙂
It would maybe be worth contacting a few local (to you) courier / haulage companies - take stuff for them on a part load basis, saving them an un-economical trip - pay you a bit, save themselves a bit -  but  with the goods under the wing of their insurance. Not sure if that gets you out of the Hire and Reward issue though - your current policy will most likely be 'carriage of own goods' only.
Depending on how much space you have - maybe do a bit of ebay searching for people doing furniture/machinery moving- again to see if they would want to sub an uneconomical job out to you
