I'm a bit late with this one, but I've just caught up with series 3.
After the discussion about Alien: Earth, I thought we should discuss this.
For those of you unaware, it's AppleTV+'s serialization of Isaac Asimov's Foundation series of books.
It's a slow burner, but as it's got going I've found it brilliant. Lee Pace as Brother Day and Laura Birn as Demerzel are particularly good, but I'm enjoying the rest of the cast too.
I have read the books, but it was years ago, and I can hardly remember what was in them.
Are there any other fans on here?
Yep, it is great. I haven't read the books but my wife has. The deviations from the book are quite significant so the twists were still a surprise.
Watching Day, Dusk and Dawn slowly becoming increasingly corrupted over the generations has been an absolute pleasure.
Really liked the first 2 series but somehow I just cannot be bothered at the moment with series 3.
Have you watched any of series 3?
Pilou Asbaek being Euron Greyjoy in space is worth the subscription alone.
I liked it. S3 was probably the better of them.
Just waiting for it to be available somewhere else!
Only way i can get it now is a free trial on Amazon prime and cane all 3 series in a week...
Yes, really enjoyed it, especially this last series.
Never read the books. Might give them a go in future, but really need to get back into the habit of reading books rather than scrolling social media.
The mess Dusk made in the last episode! I wasn't quite expecting that!
Really enjoyed it. It diverges wildly from the books so you don't need to read them to enjoy it.
Yeah really enjoyed it to, seemed to strike a good balance between multiple storylines but still being able to follow what was going on (unlike something like Westworld from a couple of series in where I had to read up after about what was going on!)

It is on Apple TV+, I doubt it is available on prime unless the licencing in your region is drastically different to UK.
If you haven't subscribed to Apple TV before it is usually easy to get a free month or 3.
As someone who has read the books, I've been enjoying the divergences from the books.
For the most part they're well considered and add to the experience rather than distract from it
Given it started as a collection of short stories that became a novel, then a series and was then shoehorned into a shared universe, It never felts like Asimov ever planned it out further than the next story, and the quality tails off after the first 3 books. Im exited to see where they take it.
I've not started series 3 yet but was really impressed with the first two. Plus I love the ludicrousness of the pitch
"Yeah so the best bits are all about the space emperors, right?"
"And that's from Foundation?"
"Not really!"
"OK but is there Foundation stuff?"
"Well there's a load of Hari Seldon bullshit"
"And is that good?"
"Absolutely not"
"But you've got Jared Harris to play him, he'll be brilliant"
"Yeah but he'll totally phone it in because he can see it's all terrible and then we'll kill him as part of the worst plotline in the show, which we're reasonably sure none of the audience will actually follow"
"Well OK I suppose it's an adaptation so you can change things a bit..."
"Right! Also Salvor Hardin is now an action hero. Violence is the first refuge of the competent!"
It's absolutely deranged, proper industry car crash nonsense and yet it turned out awesome.
I love the background chat. Like, there was a really persistent rumour that it's an I, Robot thing- that the showrunners had the Emperors thing completely written and wanted to make that show, but then Apple said "We have the Foundation licence, you can do your thing if you add like 10% of Foundationness", and it seems completely likely. But no, not true, they genuinely did set out to do an actual Foundation show and just sort of accidentally strangled it at birth and made Meet The Cleons instead, and it's awesome.

Yep,same here which makes me wonder if it’s a non-memorable story but the books must have been good enough to read the next one as why would you read them all.
The series is great thou 🙂
I did love all the culture novels (other than fersum enjin) and actually can’t remember the stories of them and dune which I can only remember the first few.
I think it’s to do with them all having more sophisticated/complicated stories than the usual simplistic dross which makes them stand out and harder to remember.
