Earwax and feeling a bit ill?

Just getting over this cold bug that seems to be going around and it has coincided with, what can best be described as, an avalanche inside my head.

Yep, they are - literally - connected.

If it’s a feeling of pressure and hearing loss coinciding with a runny nose, that’s more to do with snot blocked tubes than wax blocked tubes. Decongestants may help. Start with a chat with a pharmacist perhaps

Not after a cure as it all fell out.

Just wondering if there was a connection.

I got my ears sucked/jetted about 2 years ago and some serious lumps were removed...I now do an ear syringing in the shower every 4-6 weeks...can't say it has improved my hearing but the ears do feel 'better'...

This is all self-imposed, so don't base your actions just on this...I'm definitely not medically trained and I'm sure someone will be along to contradict what I was told by the specialist who did the ear sucking/syringing (she didn't say I should do this myself but did say if I was wanting to do this then there were plenty of kits available online, but it would always be sensible to get someone trained to do it - I clearly ignored the last part).

Almond oil drops can help loosen the wax.

Drop it in and then lie on your side for a good few minutes, then repeat for the other side.

You called?

It may well be that you have some form of condition which causes excessive build-up. But in the fast, vast majority of cases the best thing you can do with the insides of your ears is leave them alone. Wax is a defence mechanism against foreign bodies.

I had an ex who was forever excavating gods know what out of her lugholes with cotton buds, it was a nightly ritual. I suggested leaving alone for a month as an experiment. The problem went away.

When I was a kid I had a doctor who said the biggest thing you should put in your ear was your elbow.

so a cotton bud would be fine - becuase thats smaller than your elbow. He sounds like a smart guy 🙂

Oops! May not have remembered that quite right.

Hey! I was a kid a long time ago. 🙂

Almond oil drops can help loosen the wax.

Other oils work too and cost less - eg Olive oil.

So especially no cotton buds.

but don’t just go using your mama’s best extra virgin. Purchase some from the pharmacy. Drops are cheap. But The earex squirty thing is by far the best. If seriously waxed up go and get micro suction. Fortunately my problems went away after 1 session over a year ago and haven’t (yet) returned.

My mama never bought olive oil, so I just use the Extra Virgin I buy for cooking. I figure that if it’s good enough to eat it’s good enough to go in my ear. I’d be interested to hear why that is not the case.

Of course, IANAD.

Ears are self cleaning. But if like me you have very small ear canals and occasional psoriasis of said canal, a blockage can be nasty. I’ve twice had someone professionally remove wax from my ears. It was worth every penny. I didn’t find the oil method to be helpful, and that was with the purest most extra virgin olive oil. If there is water trapped behind that wax plug, it’s not coming out easily either and can ruin a holiday.
