Only need it to use an android only (4.2 or better) app for a car systems diagnostic widget (DBSeleven) so have no desire to spend more than I need to but at the same time would prefer the best that minimal money buys rather than a complete dog for the same cash. Needs to be nice plain android so no amazon fire types.

Cheers

For the sake of keeping this thread alive until you get an answer, I thought I would weigh in with a defensive comment that I am no Apple fanboi. I flipping hate Apple. But the fact is, my family all have iPads, and I have a Surface Pro, so I can't make any suggestions.

But please accept the 'bump'. 😉

Well I was going to say my Amazon Fire HD8 is brilliant for the £50 it cost, but you want stock Android. It only took 10 minutes to put Google Play store and standard apps on there, and it allows side loading of apps not on either Amazon or Google app stores.

Interesting - My iPad mini 1 is so slow I was looking for a cheap replacement.   I read the news, STW and emails on it, and as an Amazon Prime member especially, the Fire HD 10 (2017) looks good for £120.

Anyone got one - any good?  I want a keyboard stand though so was also considering Asus type web book machines.

I've got a fire HD10.

It's a bit limiting on apps, but it's possible to side-load them, although that didn't go well for me and I have up.

Good tablet tho, I mostly use it for watching tv when travelling

Thanks all. Argos have manufacturer reconditioned 7" Lenovo tab 3s for £39.99. Seems a reasonable place to start.
