I think some people think that any old shitty tie-in will be great for the kids, and there are plenty of unscrupulous entrepreneurs willing to take advantage of that. Kids have standards.. 'for kids' isn't a synonym for 'shit'.
The UK seems to lead the charge in Europe for trying to create some children's utopian whimsical experience for money type christmas. Certainly in Germany while christmas is BIG, it just seems a much more balanced time for everyone.
