I always like the Independent,
But recently, I could script better articles than they.
I mean what the hell is this... at least make an effort....

Instant assumption is the blame lies with the patient for the poor grammar.
Seems they have not seen the spelling mistake.

Gnnnnnnn
Patient warns = isn't the line a quote what "patient warns" said, badly?
'news papers' are just asking chat GPT for a good article?
It's everywhere not just the press.
I'm seeing it in technical publications and reports and all sorts of other stuff.
My feeling is there's a number of drivers such as lack of paper proofing, time/budget/profitability constraints, lower focus on spelling and grammar generally. I would try hard not to let something like that get by me but equally the meaning is there.
Newspapers especially suffer from a get it out there first mentality that's not conducive to good quality proofing.
I dunno if it's a recent thing. The Grauniad has a half-century head start if it's becoming the new-norm.
just asking chat GPT
This is happening at work everyday. Comms emails/articles are sent out that have been 'written' by chat GPT; business cases the same.
None of these are proof-read before publishing, not even by the actual communications team. It's embarrassing.
PS - I have no idea if my use of grammar/punctuation is correct, but as this is STW, I've no doubt someone will be along shortly to set fire to me for grammatical/punctuational heresy 🙄
I can't believe that people pay money every day to have someone else's opinions and thoughts embedded in their own heads even when those opinions are wrong. I'm looking at my own elderly Tory voting/anti EV/racist parents that have been brainwashed after a lifetime of reading the DailyMail.
It saddens me.

Just going to highlight the potential irony, before anyone else jumps on it. One person's medicine is another person's poison, and all that jazz.

I'm wondering if it's an age thing, or combination of NLP via media and age.
Growing up I don't remember mine having as extreme opinions as they do now. My stepdad had a rant the other day about immigrants/brown people to me, his mixed race stepson with many friends of various shades of colour.
I just stared at him until he remembered that little nugget then promptly backpedalled like an EPO'ed up Lance Armstrong in reverse. Silly prick.

I'm not saying that anything is perfect, but imagine talking to the average man down the pub about women's rights in the 60s, race in the 70s, homosexuality in the 80s, trans stuff in the 90s...Things have got a bit less extreme, haven't they.
I've been rewatching Friends while ill, and while it holds up pretty well,* it's striking how many crass gay jokes there are. And this was a totally mainstream sitcom!
* or, at least, it's just as good or bad today as it was when first broadcast
As for the OP: there is only one error in the subhead i.e. "so" instead of "to".
'Recession is inevitable', Chancellor warns is a common format in newspapers
....muuuust resiiiisttt Argh bollocks.
"Media" is the plural of medium. "Are the UK media out of control?" Yes, obv, but I'd start somewhere other than with a grammar check

While my spelling is pretty good, having spent around thirty years in print/publishing with proofreading as a significant part of my job, the intricacies of grammar can trip me up; however, I’ve never seen ‘medium’ used in this sort of context.
A major part of the problem, I believe, is that journalists, bloggers, etc, rely far too heavily on built-in spellcheckers, because speed is of the essence, without actually checking what the spellchecker is putting in. Then hoping that somewhere down the line someone will proofread what they’ve written.

Are we speaking Latin or English?

I'm using a phone and am massively colourblind.
I only saw the yellow marking when zooming in.....
See this often on lots of articles.... I think the media is now more concerned on putting the article out for online resources than worrying about tomorrow's print.
But yeah, the only time I've ever seen a fast person's chair outside the USA was in a doctors surgery in Essex.... And I saw four of them. Why?
Oh, you're fat/eat/drink/don't move enough.... Here's a chair for you whilst waiting to see the doctor about an avoidable problem, namely your weight.

I think it’s an age and retirement thing,I’ve noticed that the oldies fixate on stuff as they are basically doing nothing all day but sitting in chairs and reading watching the crap media shite whilst vegetating.
When your occupied with work or doing stuff, like a nice ride you don’t have the time, it’s the inactivity and too much time.

I’m amazed how ‘love they neighbour’ actually ran for 8 seasons so must have been popular back then.

Try talking to the locals in the Rose and Crown in Ramsbottom!!
I have repeatedly suggested on stw that Britian has never been less racist than it currently is. It is not a view shared by many who claim the complete opposite, that racism has become massively popular.
Apparently it is the reason the Tories won the last general election and we now have the most ethically diverse cabinet ever.
