Further to my posts about hating my job and notice periods, I have got my self a new job and left the (must remain professional) people that I was previously working for but damn this is keeping me run off my feet!
Does the STW massive find the same issue when starting a new job?
Been in my new job for 3 months now. 6 weeks of training ( classroom based) and still waiting for the system I'm trained on to go live. So getting paid to drink tea and twiddle thumbs, beyond boring now
Not here. I left the last job that I had because I was kicking my heels for three months.
My employer had begged and pleaded with me to work for them (I was head-hunted), offered me a ridiculously good package and then proceeded to ignore me when I got there.
I literally spent three months twiddling my thumbs and then they got all arsey when I handed my notice in. Tossers.
My current job started like that. Got head-hunted, but discovered pretty quickly that there wasn't actually any work for me to do, and had to spend the first 6 months networking and talking to all and sundry to carve out a role for myself. It's pretty common I think. Probably less so in these straightened times, but some firms recruit first and then work out the practicalities after. It worked out in the end but was pretty stressful and demoralising at first.
Started my current role just over 3 years ago. Hit the ground running and it was pretty chaotic for the first couple of months. It then got busier...
I've found a lot of firms haven't thought beyond the initial recruitment and the first couple of months are really boring / difficult. Then you start getting a basic grasp but that only realises how little you know about your new organisation. About 6 months in the fog begins to clear and you're too busy to do all the stuff you planned to do.
