Is the dji phantom worth it? I am looking at the phantom 1. I already own a gopro and film mtb videos.

I'm looking as well. I've the sony action cam with wifi so looking at the fc40 version so there are no wifi interference issues. Can't afford the phantom 2 so it's a 1 or fc40 model.

I have a Phantom 1 and it's an amazing bit of kit when combined with a gimbal and a GoPro. But, DJI won't take responsibility for the number of unexplained flyaway that happen. I'm not willing to risk loosing £600 worth of kit so I've not flown mine for some time now (I had an indecent that was only saved by a convenient tree!).

I built a quad recently for £150. It flies well (despite having me as a pilot!) And I've just Velcro/tie wrapped my action can onto the frame.
For the difference in cost vs extra features I'd build a kit any day!

They are only as good as the software you are running.
