My thinking is that much of what we're hearing and reading is intentionally placed and possibly enhanced to increase us the public's distaste of mr Putin. The use of "purporting" and "reportedly" in this example is what I mean so this story could be completely untrue. I might be wrong and it could be that he's actually that stupid mind.
This is my favourite Yoga clip of all time - any excuse to repost. They want to stop this? 🙂
There is clearly a lot of corruption in power the Russia, especially locally.
More likely the yoga studios didn't pay enough kickbacks to local officials, so they used the ant cult laws to punish them.
DO NOT underestimate Putin's regime in terms of its intentions! Ukraine is suffering because it wants to be a liberal democracy, and get away from precisely this kind of politics.

I'm not sure why you are accusing Putin of being personally involved in the decision by an official in an obscure central Russian city, which I've never previously heard of, to send a couple of letters with regards to who uses a local public hall.
Did you personally blame Tony Blair and call him stupid when some local authorities decided to ban hot cross buns at Easter ?

I have no idea what the thinking behind the actions of officials in city of Nizhnevartovsk was, perhaps they have a rule of not permitting religious activity in municipal buildings to maintain the secular nature of the state and in these examples the yoga was tied up with wider religious activity, which is why they sent out the letters. Who knows.
But if you really want to get worked up over the brutal persecution of completely innocent activity then I suggest you direct your anger at the Chinese government's relentless brutal and barbaric repression of Falun Gong, a monstrous injustice which Western governments are hypocritically completely unbothered by.
Didn't the pope say Yoga was a direct way to hell at some point too?
I am not angry at anything and am very sure there are atrocities occurring world wide.
The point I'm getting at is that we are constantly being drip fed snippets of ridicule from Russia. Some of it might or might not be true.
People would be more likely say stuff like "they even banned yoga" in conversation than the barbaric repression of Falun Gong. This might be a cunning ploy to brainwash us the unwashed into not caring when WW3 starts as he was an awful man.
No, the pope did not say that. 🙄

I'm not sure what your point is..........that the barbaric repression of Falun Gong is being ignored because an official in city of Nizhnevartovsk wrote a letter ?
I'm holding David Cameron personally responsible.
I seem to remember my mum having serious misgivings about me going to karate lessons coz there was 5mins of a meditation style of frog at the end.
So (anecdotally) yeah religious people can get het up about this sort of shizzle.
numpties.

My point is that people much prefer talking about banning yoga than barbaric repression. Thus, spreading the word of anti Russian propaganda and subconsciously spreading hate without realising it.
I'm not saying Russia is good. I'm very sure its awful but many others, one example cited by you, that are kept out of our radar by not being reported on so intensely by our media.
Just been reading about Falun Gong. Incredible, utterly barbaric.
The only exercise for a real Russian is shark riding.

"Last week saw hundreds of thousands of people around the globe celebrate the first ever International Yoga Day. The day caused controversy in India when Muslim politicians said it was an attempt to force people to conform to Hindu practices which go against Islamic teaching.
When a Muslim campaigner accused the government of trying to push a Hindu agenda in its promotion of International Yoga Day, an MP from the Hindu nationalist party suggested that any Muslims opposed to yoga should “go drown in the sea.”"

😆 Ya, they do struggle to like each others but understandable.
Oh ya ... Russian are very different kind of people there is nothing you can do about it. Do as you are told or fight them to the death.
there is a BRICS conference going on right now in Russia, Putin has actually mentioned a couple of times that he is trying to get into Yoga at the suggestion of Modi. So I dont think he personally has a problem with it!

Why is that d'you think? probably in there lies the reason why you're seeing stories like this.
Thank you Hora, done well to hold the camera steady there.
