One of our borders needs something to tidy up the edge. These panels have been decreed to be the answer:

My plan is just to mallet them in to the ground and screw them together with flat joining brackets to keep them aligned. One end can also be secured to an existing area of decking.
The panels won’t be load bearing.
Do I need to use postcrete on the stakes or even drive in proper posts to secure them to?
Just need a heavy hammer, they will rot eventually and if you need to replace them you will have the nightmare of digging the postcrete out.
We have just done our daughters with something similar. She opted for the vertical half log effect. Found the first one difficult to hammer in the right place so used a length of rebar to get deep enough pilot holes in. Once in place we used metal preholed brackets to keep them fastened together. Eventually they will rot but won't be too difficult to replace the pointy bits.
As others say, just hammer into ground, prep beforehand to make sure it's good ground to mallet them into.
Postcrete could just cause more issues, such as messy finish and the hassle in replacing after time, these things tend to look a bit naff after a couple of years, i only like postcrete for stuff that i can bury and add at least a few inches of topsoil on top off to hide the hideous stuff!
Ta all. Will proceed as planned 👍
Obviously as mentioned above they will rot, but you can offset that a bit by giving them a few coats of some heady duty paint like hammerite. And rot time without paint is well over 5 years, maybe ten.
Going against the theme here but I'd put something in, even if just a big blob of mortar mix
I only say as I don't think I've ever seen one of these style of things that hasn't shifted/flopped over.
I hate them, mind you 😃
A few years back i put some edging stones down and i dug out the area and filled back a bit with a dry mix of sand / cement. When they were all in a tidy row i watered it. That worked well but overkill for what you are doing. Just bash in.
