Doh... watching footy on the phone with my son in the bath and the damn phone slipped off the window ledge and in the water! It was submerged for about 3 secs, and everything works except for sound. Is the speaker knackered or can I recover it? Feeling the pain of shame at the moment!!

Don't touch anything and leave in a bowl of rice in the airing cupboard for the night?

EDIT: The phone, not your son! 😀

I would be leaving alone too and letting it dry out properly

Ok, I'll switch it off and move to the computer!

I wouldn't even switch it off - just leave it be...submerge in rice (uncooked 🙂 ) and leave in airing cupboard till tomorrow. All very scientific like.

Sadly no airing cupboard, but its in some rice and I'll leave it be. I'm concerned that because it was playing at the time the speakers may have shorted or something, as everything else is working fine. Oh well, we'll see!

SOP to not touch anything on the phone and do what everyone has suggested, put into a bowl of rice in the airing cubboard.
Alternatively, put the phone into a sock or similar cloth bag and put into a bowl of kitty litter, the crystal stuff is basically silica gel, so always worth having a bag around just in case.

Whenever I've had problems with sound it's usually down to the jack socket, always seems to collect dust and fluff and if that got wet

^^^ probably damp in the headphone socket making it think the headphones are plugged in. Dry it out with some rolled up tissue.

Good thinking, I'll look at the headphone jack socket in the morning. Not touching it now!

Ps you should definitely turn it off. Water alone doesn't damage electronics. Water + electric current does though. Obviously most of the damage is done straight away but if you immediately turn it off and don't turn it back on until it's fully dry, you minimise the chance of problems.

If no airing cupboard put phone/rice bag on a radiator. The longer you leave it the better. FWIW had to do same with wife's phone a few weeks ago and the water was bad enough to cause the phone to shut down (drink spilled inside handbag containing phone ...)
