To think about... worry about... care about and be concerned for other forum users.

Not just the one's that I've met and would call friends in real life but some of you other randoms? Afterall, you could just be robots...

You're secretly worried about TJ not wearing a helmet aren't you? 😉

As above it's only human. The phrase 'grief lite' springs to mind.

Always copy and pasta lengthy posts before you hit the submit button. Nothing worse than losing several paragraphs , in my case of vitriol, due to the board going bang.

Another top tip, perhaps even topper: get Lazarus add-on if you're a Firefox user. It saves form/text box content as you type, so you'll never have suffer the long-post-dumped-into-oblivion frustration ever again. It can easily be left off on sites you don't want form information saved.

+1 for Lazarus.

And for some bizarre reason i was thinking about some of the posters on here while in immense pain during a 7hr MTB race - quite odd.

If the effort for team bullheart, the response in a (reasonably) recent RIP thread, the support in the various "i need help", "my wife's left", "i'm not feeling good at the moment" type threads are anything to go by....

then its not weird at all 🙂

This forum, despite its angry-i-must-win-or-be-right-all-the-time-for i-am-lord-of-STW-types, is surprisingly supportive at times.

The thing to remember is that for everyone who thinks you're an idiot (guessing some recent tags and comments are playing on your mind and in a twisted TSY type of way its ended up with this thread?) there's many more who will be lurking on the site amused by an injection of fun into the forum but scared to type themselves in case the forum lords set on them.

i can't work out whether i like you... on one side you're a stupidly fast rider and what i'd now class as a friend in both the real and online world... on the other you steal my tupperware and i'm not a fast rider so maybe we're not compatible and that dating site lied to us.... tricky 😈

Cheers Phil and Kaesae!

See phil sometimes I think the comments are a little annoying, pathetic even, but generally I don't care what other people think about me, especially not on here. But it doesn't stop me being concerned for others... like when a regular goes AWOL, or there is a distinct change in the style of someones posts. Sometimes you can almost read someone going into meltdown...
I guess I just think... maybe they need more Yeti in their lives... maybe they should come ride with me? 😆

I guess you are referring to me TSY, thanks.

My old company still has not provided a reference after being asked 4 times (apparently they have a reputation for being slow).

I am beginning to wonder if honesty was the best policy with regards to the disclosures I made in the pre-employment heath questionnaire.

It is all very frustrating.

Plus I have just found out that I bought some fake Chinese razor blades this morning. The good thing is that the seller is going to refund the money.

I must admit that I am still feeling quite bummed 🙁

However, the sun is shining and I am going to go out for a blast on my bike soon.

My job is a hassle if that is any consolation. They make me come here every day, sit at this bloody desk, write software blah blah, same everyday, they seem to think giving me money makes it alright. 🙁

In jokes are fine, some people are just not in on them which makes them grumpy, we are hardly an cliquey group and the humour is hardly exclusive so I wouldn't worry about stroppy forumites.

@Ho hun - good luck dude! i always figure honesty is the best policy as you're less likely to get stung at a later date 🙂 as long as you didnt mention STW on the application....

Nice one iDave... current training is..

Swim every morning - focused on technique at minute
45min sping Mon / Weds / Fri.
Weights Tues & Thurs
Proper Biking one day at weekend
Rest or something more gentle the other.

Apparently I'm doing LEJOG at the end of April now 😯

Did my first 5k the other day to see how I get on with running. 22 1/2 mins didn't seem bad?

Nice build by the way and I did notice that you didn't offer me a shot. 🙁 Fair play though for nailing the double drop-off not once but 20 times. 8)

TSY, 5km in 22.5mins is good for your first one 🙂 I'd give anything to be able to run that atm - i'm stuck jog walking so my times are crap. Todays lunch time jog walk was 7km in 39mins - a few months ago i was doing 10k in 42mins. Bah! 🙁 As an aside, i see from your training above you are doing weights twice a week - do you find you improve / stay the same keeping it as twice a week?

C_G - I'm sorry... you should've just asked!! Next time, if I forget to offer, just demand a go! I'm still not sure I understand teh Awesome scale, so in the spirit of arrogance.. thanks for the compliment!

dirtygirl... I alternate in 6-8 week periods between doing bodypump and free weights. The bodypump stint is total body where as free weights I do one session of 'pull' movements and one session of 'push'.
I'm finding that there is a steady improvement in what I can lift, but I have no intention of being a power lifter so it suits me... I do sometimes use my rest day to do more weights and a swim though.

42min 10k is now a target though 😉

bodypump

Starting the gym myself on 7th Feb. Mostly for circuit training and pool access*, as run and bike outdoors mostly. Anyways, seen bodypump on the schedule of classes and wondered what is it.

So what is it?

*not swam...erm..swum..er..swimmed? in 20 years so should be interesting.

It's hard! All about muscle toning, be prepared to be embarrassed by a lycra clad lovely that you think you're stronger that for your first couple of classes!

It's all weight based but lighter weights lifted continuosly in time to music... seperated as follows
Warm up track
Squat track
Chest track
Back track
Lunges
Shoulders
Triceps
Biceps
Stomach

If you've not done any swimming for ages get yourself a copy of Total Immersion 'Freestyle made Easy'... I got a copy just over a week ago and half way through the DVD after 6 sessions my swimming has been transformed.

You are right about the honesty thing Phil.

I know that it has slowed things down, but I do not like comprising my integrity and I would rather have the past problems I have had declared now rather than they come up at some point in the future for whatever reason.

Anyway, I had a good blast this morning and after a no-cycle period for most of December and January I am pleased that my fitness and strength is coming back fairly quickly. This time last year I was still smoking and looking back it really did have a big impact on my fitness level.

TSY. You'll manage a 42min 10k easy - that was me still carrying an injury (just to put some perspective on it) 😉

I lift weights twice a week - an over all session for 90mins each time. It takes me a long time to be able to up my weights, and seems like a very big jump between weights with certain ones. I was wondering if increasing it to three times a week would help but not sure i can fit in anymore training as i'm 6 days a week just now (my legs don't need it but my upper body/core could do with the extra strength). I'm not sure if not being able to increase my weights is a general female thing/probably not enough protein as i don't eat meat, or if i'm just too small/not suited to lift bigger weights. I don't want to be a power lifter, but i enjoy lifting weights.

@ jamie - i'd say lift slightly easier weights in your first body pump than you might normally as you'll do a lot more sets/reps in a class than you would on your own. Can't help you with the swimming, haven't swum in about 18 years either!

I'll give that a go - i'm pretty tired by the end of a weights session. My press up total seems to be getting worse, not better and I'll never make 100 at this rate!

Are you training for something specific?

I've entered the Trans Provence this year, LEJOG, 3 peaks challenge, possibly the Trans Wales, fancy stepping up for some 24 hour races, after watching the Tour Divide vid I need to do that at some point. Sorting out my swimming so that Tri's could be viable.

I'm really just addicted to exercise so I guess that it's all for my life goal of Awesomeness.

What about you? You do a lot of running right? If your press up total is slipping definitely cut back on workout time, I'm sure it's advised to not do weights for longer than 45-50min sessions. Have you thought of lowering the reps but increasing weights for a bit too?

How long did you smoke before you gave up?

It always amazes me when I see very fit like yourself who smoke (or used to smoke in your case). Then again, I can understand why as it is so addictive.

*high 5s addicted to exercise buddy* Trans Provence? Nice 🙂

As i'm mainly a roadie these days 😳 I'm hoping to do a lot of sportives, including a 2 day one and timed climb abroad. Ideally i want to do a couple of half marathons and a full one if i can get my running sorted. I'm a bit wary of entering events after last year so I'll just see how things go. Wanted to do the TdF etape but its sooooo expensive!

I'll try cutting back on workout time, although i currently enjoy weights more than riding just now, but it is depressing to see my press ups dropping whilst all my other weights are fine/going up.

At what point in your work out do you do the press ups?

Mid way through - after the chest press and pull ups. If i do press ups before the other two, i can do lots more, but less on the chest press/pull ups. Never very sure what is the best way round to do it.

I think part of the problem is i don't rest much in between exercises - i usually do upper body straight into core the straight into legs. Sorted then - i just need to act like one of the blokes and stand around grunting/admiring my muscles in between exercises so i can recover more? 😆

I have a past that saw lots of care and concern for me last year. Lots of that care was from people i've never met and possibly never will.

Me too.

Ho Hum I hope your work issues get sorted soon. Good to hear that you've been back on the bike and I'm pleased to tell you that I've have been doing the same. No big rides - just a bit of playing in the woods but I remember what a good thing it is just to ride a bike.

When the job thing is sorted out I intend to buy a roof rack and become a bit more mobile. When this happens and you get back up north of the border then we will go out for that ride we talked about.

dirty girl... personally I'd start on the press ups. Body weight exercises act as a pretty good warm up before moving on the heavier weights. I appreciate this could be different for women.

Anyway, I'm trying not to start too many threads this week. Just skimmed Druidh's Monroe bagging one... I'm having an early thirties life crisis!
