[Closed] Is it safe to take data off a PC that had a "whiltelisted" rootkit virus??

We have AVG 2011 (paid for version) on our ancient desktop - the other day it found about 6 rootkit viruses which it said were "whitelisted" and couldn't be removed.
I ran malwarebytes (free version) which found a different file that it said was dangerous (in WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED INSTALLATIONS) and removed that one.

After a reboot, AVG wouldn't run any more, so I reinstalled it (now have the 2014 version and all old virus reports are lost 🙁 ). I ran a scan, but it hasn't found the rootkits again...

Is it safe to take data off the hard drive now or could these rootkit thingies still be on there given they were never removed??

Help please...
