i currently have a toshiba satellite laptop that comes with a dual core intel 1.90ghz processor/ intel hd graphics card and about 4.5 gb ram.

i would like to upgrade it if possible to something that could run games like the crew e.t.c.

is it possible for me to upgrade the components in my laptop,or would i have to go for a desktop instead?

ta 🙂

Unlikely tbh, RF. Sounds like a non-upgradeable machine. You could get a used logic board from Ebay with possibly a faster CPU, but it would depend on whether one was made for that particular variant. Post the model number and I'll look. Even then, it wouldn't be a lot faster, and the Intel HD GPU is (as far as I can tell) below the minimum spec for "The Crew".

I'd get a desktop

It's be cheaper, easier and a lot better result to buy a secondhand gaming rig. Laptop don't upgrade easily or cheaply and often not at all.

thanks drac, tbh i thought as much.

i am going to try and get a decent 2nd hand desktop pc (and try and trade my laptop in towards the new desktop also (as i don't use the laptop anywhere but at home).

am hoping if i save about £300 i can get myself a reasonable gaming desktop for that.

Keep an eye on Gumtree you'll get one for that but probably with no display.

You'd be able to ugrade the RAM, probably, and change the SSD. But for a gaming platform you'd probably need to upgrade the graphics card and that's almost certainly not possible.
