A few months ago I had a funny turn at 2am when having a pee; I suddenly blacked out and fell forwards faceplanting the loo with my face.
I hit the porcelain rim with my top lip as I fell and bruised it badly.
It took a couple of months for the pain & tenderness in the region of my septum to go away completely, I assumed it was a very deep bruise and counted myself lucky I hadn't broken/killed a tooth or smashed my nose up. It was to the left of my septum that the pain persisted. Nothing went black or blue.
However, now I notice that my left nostril is quite blocked, especially when I breathe in. Nothing feels like it's moving in there, so I guess it's not a polyp-y thing. The blockage feels like it's where the nose turns into a sinus.
Did a break my nose or move a bit of bone?
Should I just go and have a camera put up there? I'm afraid they might see the empty inside of my skull and put me in a jar as a medical oddity 🙂
Go and see a doctor if you're worried.
More to the point, go and see a doctor about your unexplained collapse - it's not normal to blackout like that!
Yes, I broke my nose when I was a kid and have no idea when or how.
Thanks for the replies.
The fainting after weeing in the middle of the night is not actually a problem, and it did happen a couple of years ago, the doc said it was no big deal and I should just sit to pee. It hadn't happened for ages so I forgot about it.
It's not uncommon.
I had been drinking a bit too.
Anyway, RE the nose thing, I'm not really worried, it doesn't hurt. I just wondered if it was possible!
You pee like a girly girl? s****s
Not when I'm awake!
Actually, it's not a bad thing - if I had fallen slightly differently I'd have broken my teeth, or smashed my nose up, might have even broken an eye socket. You try faceplanting a porcelain bog!
Razzzzzzzz.
😉
Low blood pressure makes me go wobbly, quite surprised by doc saying to eat more (salty) crisps to counteract it...
I've had nose broken twice but not due to former I think, more to do with rugby matches I've played in getting out of hand

Same here 😀 Main problem is going from lying down to standing up...
Broke my nose two years ago, it hurt like billy-o, no after affects though. As others have said, see the doc
Get the blockage removed
Having broken my nose about 10 times, it has bled a lot every time. the last time for about 4 hours. Before that I had the cartilage displaced by a friendly punch in the face in a nightclub. That hurt more than the breaks but bled less. None of it has really affected my breathing, but it has increased the volume and frequency of my snoring (apparently!).
Sounds like a deviated septum, which I also apparently have. A doctor spotted it. They were looking up my nose for another reason, to see if it was swollen due to an allergy. They said it was swollen and my septum is deviated. She said they would fix it if I was younger* and that was the end of it. However I do now think that this could be why nose runs all the time. I'm going to get it looked at again I think.
As to how it happened, don't think I've ever broken my nose but have had it hit a fair few times playing Rugby.
* i.e a child
I broke my nose as a child (diving into a swimming pool) and it pissed blood for a while but didn't particularly hurt badly. It just felt like I'd bruised some skin rather than snapping bone.
I did get put in hospital that night and had it straigtened. But I don't think my mum wanted her daughter to have a nose like a Rugby player rather than needing it fixed for medical reasons.
i broke mine when i broke rest of my face in an OTB incident end of last year. Never felt it but only as rest of face was so sore 🙂 It got reset under a general while rest of face was rebuilt. It felt blocked for a few months but now is fine, although it tends to always be a bit wet/drippy, which it wasnt before - I can only assume some tubes got nipped/
I broke my nose a few years ago...but you could see that it was wonky.
When I got it fixed they said that if it's broken inside it may need more invasive repairs, an indicator of this is not being able to breath properly though your nose.
Oooh dear - this is turning into a gore thread!
Because I didn't actually hit my nose, I wasn't surprised it didn't bleed more than a dribble. I hope it doesn't get worse, I can put up with it as it is, but my father had the more invasive option and it hurt like hell.
I didn't make the mistake of wrestling "Clive The Log" down the pub though, so haven't had quite the punishing that he did. 😉
Weird. I'll add it to the list of things to eventually see the doc about, like that third eye that grew on the camping holiday and closed when the LSD wore off. It still itches.
Go and get it checked.
I broke my nose when I was a kid, knew all about it as it bled profusely but didn't twig it was broken.
Went to a doctor few days later due to headaches and continued pain, he said not broken. This carried on for a week or so with no improvement, went to a different doctor who found it was broken and also infected.
Rushed to hospital to have it rebroken, set and cleaned. They told me that the infection was 'eating the flesh upwards from the bridge of my nose and would have eventually reached my brain'. 😯
A person close to me had to have a nose op under general and said they felt absolutely fantastic for quite a while afterwards, which was probably something to do with the cocaine the doctors stuff up your hooter when doing it
I wish it had been, instead I got three foot of cotton wadding up each nostril and sinus which, after a few days congealing in blood and fusing with my flesh, was pulled out a foot at a time over three days. Stung a bit, that one.
the doc said it was no big deal and I should just sit to pee
That's doctors for you. I saw mine about a mole I wasn't happy shaving over and was told to just grow a moustache instead 🙂
enfht - was the mole actually on your top lip or was he offereing facial hair advice?
Having broken my nose twice, I definitely noticed. The fact that my face bounced off a hard object had something to do with it!
I noticed when I broke mine. I misstimed a rugby tackle and nose-butted a boot. My nose bled like someone had turned on a tap. Didn't displace though, and no breathing problems since.
Lost my sense of smell completely a few years back and had a load of sinus trouble. Saw a consultant eventually who said I had polyps, blocked sinus and a deviated septum. The latter most likely due to a broken nose in the past. I don't ever remember breaking my nose but took a few knocks during my rugby playing career.
Get your nose looked at. Best case you've got Rhinitis which some spray will sort worst case the septum can be sorted by surgery.
Alrighty - I'll make an appointment.
If there's cool pictures of the inside of my nose taken, I'll share them here 😉

I knew I'd broke mine!
I've got it. It's my upper teeth!
I think.
