Yes a lot are on Facebook but it seems everyday someone's lost a dog or one has been lured away. Are people really thieving dogs or is it just bad/unlucky owners?

Quite a few reports of dogs and cats being stolen as 'bait' animals for dog fighting.

There was a fair kick up about some operating out of (I think) Ayrshire.

Dogs run off, dogs get nicked and partners also get jealous of the dog and the dog strangely disapears one night, when the other partner is out, and they also get run over when they escape and are buried/dumped when they are not chiped to notify the owner.

How about, the same number of dogs are going missing but more owners are on FB?

All possible.

But anecdotally, I'd noticed a lot of extra chatter about missing dogs too. Which isn't really anything much as evidence goes.

The FB missing dog thing is pathetic. They do the same with kids....help a little girl has gone missing. ...she's been found now she was having a big poo!

Not only are some dogs taken for use in dog fighting but quite a few pedigree show dogs are "dognapped" and used for stud. When our pooch came first in its class at crufts the local paper got wind of it and wanted to run an article on him along with pictures. At first they couldn't understand why we refused but after explaining how much he's worth ( the stud fees of an crufts winner can fetch upwards of 1.5k a pop) they realised that if they did a piece on him it wouldn't take much for someone to recognise him from the photo and take him.

Hi
I work in Environmental Health and am currently looking at an allegation that dogs go missing for use in puppy farms.
Don't know if the complainant is a crank yet or if there's some truth in it.
We shall see
Cheers
Steve

POSTED 1 HOUR AGO # REPORT-POST

It's not the usual bollox that's on face book. Its actual local people on our towns page and I also know several vets who report responsibly missing dogs.

Either way, mocking the disappearance of children is somewhat knobbish IMHO!

I wasn't mocking the disappearence of children so much as the pathetic attention seeking idiots on FB who will like and share any old bollox as the gospal truth without checking on the facts. As a father of 3 I would no more mock the disappearence of children than take any notice of your humble opinion mate 😆
