Just about to place an order for some insulation and plasterboard and they seem to have their own brand boards a lot cheaper than Knauf, BG etc.
Are boards like the following best avoided?:

I have never heard of cheap plasterboard being a problem. The only thing that matters imo is how it has been stored, ie stored flat and in dry conditions.
Edit : Obviously it needs to be the correct plasterboard for whatever application, that can significantly effect the price, but in cases of like for like I would go for the cheapest.
why SQ edge
Why wouldn’t you want square edge unless you were dry lining?
I've done a bit of sheeting and would recommend you stick to tapered. Mainly as if there is joints, tapered is far less likely to crack along the joint.
Costs i would expect to be in the region of a tenner to twelve per sheet at 8x4
If theres a possibility of any sort of dampness, say you are studding a brick/outside wall then go for moisture resistant.
I'd the ceiling done in the workroom and opted for the blue soundproof(well probably slightly more soundproof than standard)
Another thing to note is for ceilings its usually double sheeting, due to fire. double sheeting gives up to an hour burning through time. Might actually be a legal rule about double sheeting ceilings, but couldnt say for 100% as is a while since i looked into such things -(maybe single sheet if it is fireproof board)
Those prices are about what I pay for the British Gypsum plasterboard from Jewsons.
I'm with Ernie, seemed to be much of a muchness when I did my house. I did get some fancy fireproof stuff for the wall where the stove is but other than that just fit the cheapest, no problems.
(First time renovating a house, and not a professional builder so make of my experience what you will)
I'm doing the ceiling and all 4 walls and will be nearing 40+ boards, so about £100 savings.
Was looking at SE as a quick Google gives results on Screwfix and DIY not which all say SE if you are skimming.
Ceiling is also 3m so thought SE be better for joining as well.
If you’re skimming, go SE. No plasterer is going to thank you for fitting taper edge, which then all needs filling out. Taper is for dry lining and taping.
As long as it’s new and dry, I’d use the cheapest. Have a good ring round though, you can probably negotiate 40 branded boards at same rate or close if you ask.
Why new boards then skim.
Why wouldn't you TE and tape ?
That said a skim will hide alot more with amateur boarding
Nowt like a quick slight on someone's boarding skills first thing in a morning 🙂
The walls have been battened, and the battens levelled horizontally and vertically so my boarding should be fine thanks. Plasterer has never complained with all the other rooms I've done previously.
