They may talk about different subjects but both are great presenters and obviously are clever chaps.
???
They talk about different subjects
This
errrrr, no.
Attenborough is worth a hundred million billion Coxes.
Not yet.
But he could be.
I don't think so. I also think he seems to have been a little shoehorned in to the role already with his latest show. Almost as if the Beeb are trying to make it happen regardless.
His original solar system show was, I must add, superb.
He was presenting something the other day that wasn't on his specialist topic.
I find him dull.
Attenborough every time, I don't mind some Cox, but to much is a pain in the arse.
Attenborough was quoted as saying he thought(and liked the idea) that Cox would be the kind of person that could take over from him.
Brian Cox seems to be trying to be trendy and accessible.
While Attenbrough just seems to be effortlessly enthusiastic and knowledgeable about his subject.
Although I am too young to have seen Attenbrough's early television career
Yes - the stuff he was doing last night on the evolution of vertebrate jaws and eyes, was excellent. AS engaging as Attenborough if not more so.
Just checked with Mrs Cat.
Her response was "I know which one I'd rather shag."
My retort "But I know which one you would stand most chance of getting a shag from."
The shed is looking very inviting right now.
i hope not. he's annoying now, imagine how smug he'd be after another 50 yrs on TV.
I find Cox annoying and trying too hard. DA just has natural talent and doesn't need to try.
atters certainly thinks so
Sir David Attenborough passes natural history crown to Brian Cox
Coxy, Attenboroughs had his day(s)
You wouldn't catch Sir David doing this.
I find Brian Cox engaging and hats off to anyone who can make quantum physics accessible to me. He seems to love what he does and it comes across when he's on camera.
He isn't quite an Attenborough yet though. Could listen to his voice all day, and some of his pioneering explorations and early filming of things like the Birds of Paradise(albeit in b+w) was truly groundbreaking.
He is very very good on the Infinite Monkey cage, Though I've never seen him on the Television.
If you read AA Gill's review in this weeks Sunday Times he would suggest not.

And why would anyone read the ramblings of possibly the most obnoxious and ignorant man in England, Clarkson excepted? 😉
I hadn't noticed Cox advocating the mass slaughter of poor people, which is something Attenborough has a penchant for doing.
Cox is very good. Also he's my favourite professor just beating professor green
What Rusty Spanner said (on both counts!) ^^^
Brain Cox's smile creeps me out and makes me want to lamp him.
Secondly, his softly spoken voice winds me up.
Thirdly, I have to switch channel when he starts talking about Biology because his smiling coupled with the fact that he's talking about my subject instead of physics makes me rage out.
Fourthly, I think this is all down to the fact that he reminds me of my old best school mate....who turned out to be a wet fart with no sense of loyalty - who's such a boy that he married a woman of 33 at the age of 23 because he likes being told what to do.
But hey....
Although I am too young to have seen Attenbrough's early television career
You should check it his early stuff if you can find it - he had more in common with Steve Irwin back then - short shorts, chasing down and rugby tackling giant anteaters.
Maybe not the new Attenborough, could well be the new James Burke, though, if he gets a bit better he could even make it as a new Patrick Moore or Carl Sagan.

What about Professor Heinz Wolff, surely he is the pre-eminent television professor and physicist.
Which reminds me, without Heinz Wolff and Johnny Ball on the box, who is educating today's generation of children? Surely we are not leaving it to the teachers.
kayak23 thats great ^
Cox is good, his apples are also really nice.
The main difference though is that Attenborough only made programmes in his subject area. It makes a difference.
I find Cox annoying and trying too hard. DA just has natural talent and doesn't need to try.
This. The voice of Cox also sends me to sleep.
Cox is a truly dreadful presenter. I come away from his programs none the wiser. It's all 'This is a [fill in gap]. It's amaaaaazin''
He strives for profundity and achieves banality.
i saw his quantum physics lecture at the royal institute, i found it entertaining and informative.
great telly.
(i've read about the double-slit experiment, but never really understood how it demonstrates that particles behave as waves - now i don't understand why i didn't understand it, he made it very simple for me)
but i didn't mind terribly that he had left the guy in charge of lining up the lens-flare at home...
