Slightly concerned to read the mRNA jab (Pfizer/Moderna) typically has very mild side effects for the first jab and much worse for the second - the opposite of the AZ jab.

I’ve got my second Moderna jab tomorrow and I was pretty rough with the first - uncontrollable shivering, headache, nausea, temp of 39degC. If the second one is supposed to be a lot worse it’s not going to be pleasant. Anyone has a bad reaction to the first then was ok with second?

Doesn't seem any rhyme or reason to it. I know people who were bad with first and not with second and visa versa, as well as people who were fine with both. My wife and her colleagues who got Pfizer.

I had Az and was fine with both, second I had an achy arm that's all, but again know people on all parts of the spectrum with first and second.

I had my second Moderna this morning. After the first I felt like I’d had 2 or 3 pints. This one feels like 5 or 6.

My wife had her second Moderna yesterday and feels hungover.

We both reckon rougher second time but neither of us were that bad first time.

That is not the same as saying “for an individual with severity x side effects after first dose, they have severity x times 2 for the second”
It merely suggests people are more likely to suffer what you suffered on their second go.
Got a link to a paper? The answer to your question might be there in the data.

Data from Zoe does indicate that side effects from 2nd AZ are less than first (experience of all in my family who've had it) and that side effects from 2nd Pfizer are worse than first

Both my partner and I have had both Pfizer jabs, in her case there was no difference as she really only had a sore arm both times, my second jab had fewer symptoms, I was fatigued the first time, no effect at all the second.
My brother and his wife have had both of their AZ jabs, she had a headache and vomiting after the first, no symptoms at all after the second, he had no symptoms the first time except for a sore arm, had a few days of fatigue after the second. So on our family’s experience, no clear conclusions!

I felt like i was at about 95% for a week or 2 after my first pfizer and then somewhere between 85 and 90% after the second dose

My wife has had both Pfizer. The first really hit her bad and the second was a non-event. Her colleagues (NHS) reported much the same.

I've had my fist and second Pfizer jabs, no issue apart from numb shoulder and fatigue after the first jab.

My sister and my wife, both the same age got their second Moderna jab at 9am yesterday neither having had any reaction to the first. They went together to the centre so guessing got jabs from the same batch. Sister had no side effects, 10pm last night wife got hit with side effects, freezing, aches and pains all over, currently she's sitting on couch still feeling rubbish.

So doesn't seem to be any pattern to it. Best of luck tomorrow.

That’s reassuring, sounds like it’s not necessarily a forgone conclusion I’ll be bed ridden tomorrow evening.

Where did you read that?

Me and my wife have just had our 2nd pfizer (2 days ago) and have no symptoms, same as the first, other than a bit of tenderness where they stabbed us.

I’ve seen it quoted a number of times but can’t remember where exactly

Ah right, never seen that.

Well, it wasn't an issue for us anyway.

I was short and brutal the first time, longer and less severe but way more annoying the second.

I have had both doses of AZ. After first felt slightly fuzzy and fatigued next day which lasted about 24 hours.
After the second , absolutely nothing.

GF has had first Moderna. Complained that arm was sore but that went after 48hours, otherwise nothing.

18year old son had first dose of Pfizer yesterday. So far nothing to report.

I had the PFizer jab. Only a sore arm after the first, and just a sore arm and a little bit of a runny nose on the second. Most of my colleagues at work were slightly more affected by the second jabs, but only a couple felt unwell enough that they couldn't make it in to work.

My wife had AZ and had just a sore arm on both. So both very lucky really.

I think feeling unwell is better than ending up on a ventilator, or worse, and at least there is an explanation for that. It's not like you feel like **** for no reason, it's just the immune response making you feel that way. Clearly it's absolutely tragic that some people have lost their lives following something that was given to help protect them.

I've had loss of strength in my right arm 5 days after my first Pfizer which isn't getting better. I've since had my second dose. Also affect my peripheral blood flow as no matter what I do I can't get my hands to warm. Sat in office with gloves on. I work in health and it's been almost instructed that we all must get it (but not mandatory.. Yet)

I had my first flu jab of the season last week which I always do working in health and type 1 diabetic. In fact I had 2 flu jabs last year at each end of the winter season. This year's jab wiped me out which is odd. I get thrm every year w/o fail but always got it, and never had issues before.

GP says Pfizer is "safe". Not really putting any value to my concerns. I'm trying to work out how I can register my symptoms online but it seems a difficult process so far.

We have zero active cases in WA right now yet Victoria health are saying this "delta" variant is so infectious you "just have to walk past someone with it, to get it". We seem to be a lot better off in isolated WA compared to over East.

I’ve had the Pfizer the first does I had a sore arm. The second dose was much worse as I had a sore arm.

Just see how you get on. You will only hear from those who felt worse unless you ask. People like a good moan.

Ok. Posted yesterday having had second Moderna at 0800 yesterday morning. Noted that it seemed a bit worse second time.

Oh my. Headache, raging thirst (7 or 8 pints of water overnight), very little sleep, high temperature, knackered, difficultly walking in a straight line.

Starting to subside now. Still rough.

PS - no 5G yet. Do I need to upgrade the handset?

Had my first Moderna a week or so ago and as mentioned above felt about 90% for the week after with a bit of a sore arm. No magnetism or other powers yet but still time!

I had AZ, first jab and 12 hours later I was begging for the cold embrace of death to take me away, second was either mild, or there was a higher pollen count that day.

Wife had Pfizer, 1st she was rough for days, 2 days off work and severe headaches for 10 days. 2nd was just a mild headache easily handled by paracetamol.

I had two Pfizers, nothing either time. I do have 5G though - it's either the vaccine or the new phone, not sure which.

My first one was just a sore arm, like a lot of people.

Had my second on Saturday, again just a sore arm. Sunday though I felt rough, with aches in a few places and a bit of gut rot. Feel ok today but still low on energy, which is annoying as I planned to go riding today!

1st az was mild , had the 2nd today but practically nothing other than what I thought was a headache after an hour.

It's now got me thinking that I've not got much immunity! Or that the theory of having covid previous makes the vaccine symptoms worse plays out because I'm pretty certain I've not had infection

Now 10hrs post 2nd Moderna, seem to be getting off fairly lightly so far. Arm gone a bit tender in the last hour. So far nothing close to the first jab, but I don’t think I got really bad with the first one until 24hrs+.

Due to circumstance I’m someone who has had a shot of AZ and Pfizer. Day after AZ I felt rough, tired, cold and achey, a bit like heavy cold but it was gone the next day. Day after Pfizer, and my arm did ache but didn’t have the Cold like symptoms. Next Pfizer in 3 weeks, but lady at the pharmacy when I got the Pfizer jab did say most people felt the second shot more. I’ll report back if you wait that long 😉

Well I certainly hope the side effects of the Pfizer one aren't worse second time around. Had my first on Monday and have been in bed pretty much since and feel like I've been run over by a train.

Honestly, had I known I would feel like this and having already had covid, I would not have bothered having the jab.

I'm seriously considering cancelling the second one...

I probably spoke too soon. Can confirm the side effects were just as bad on the 2nd dose. Fever, nausea, headache etc.

My vile side effects from Moderna were gone in 36 hours.

No power on the bike, but it was just a half hour cruise last night anyway.

First AZ 6 weeks ago. Fine for first 2 weeks. The last 4 I've felt like my body has fallen apart and slowly getting worse. Knees/ shoulders feel rubbish. Nerve pain down limbs.

Not had 2nd yet. Huff.

Covid Christmas Day. Migraine style headaches, Breathless just walking a few steps and feeling tosh.
First Pfizer 31st of January, minor headache and tired for 48 hours.
Arm slightly achy.

Second Pfizer 18th of April zero side effects and zero arm pain.

Had both my AZ jabs ...

1st jab made me fall asleep early with headache at the same time everyday for about 3-4 days.
2nd jab felt nothing at all even having not slept for more than 5 hours for past 2 weeks.

Opps ... AZ is not mRNA ...

Not sure if this is the side effect but I don't seem to get any hay fever this year at all ...

Had my second moderna jab yesterday morning felt OK during the day even managed to go for a ride.
Arm a little sore when I went to bed at which point I really went down hill
Fever, Shivers headache, aching all over.
Still ache all over today but fever and Shivers have gone. Can barely move my arm
Managed to get all through this covid without anytime off work until the 2nd vaccine

It seems to be that if you’ve had Covid your first Pfizer is effectively the second exposure, so bad.

Second moderna jab on Tuesday afternoon. Felt fine until yesterday after lunch, when I basically ceased to function. Shivers, sweating, aching all over, arm felt like it had been punched by someone. Went to bed and slept for a few hours.

All gone today. Feel fine now.

Same - 2nd moderna yesterday at 3pm, same sore arm as first time came through (only symptoms on 1st jab) then 8pm felt awful with shivers and headache. Still there this morning but gone pretty much by 12 today. Just feel a bit tired and weak now.

As many above, other than achy upper arm, nothing after 1st Moderna. After second, fine all day but in evening started to feel a bit shite. Night was sleepless with fever & shivers all night. Wiped out next day for a bit, prob due to lack of sleep but fine after that.

The boss and me got our second moderna injection on Monday and within a few hours the sore arm that we got on the first one was already feeling worse. Went to bed early that night but didnt get to sleep until about 5am I was like a furnace and spent a good while hunched over the toilet waiting to puke (didnt in the end but im not sure if it would have been better if i had) Mrs K was freezing and had shivers most of the night. Next day apart from being tired I wasn't too bad but she was getting really bad stomach cramps she likened to contractions.

It wasnt a nice night

OP here, can confirm the 2nd was every bit as bad as the first. Several days of temperatures, nausea, headache with both jabs. Strangely I woke up with a sore arm this morning, 11 days post jab, the soreness had gone away 5 or 6 days ago. Could be the booze I had last night has reignited some inflammation.

Had my second Pfizer on Wednesday - for me, it wasn't too bad. Did a day's uplift at Innerleithen on Thursday (poor planning on my part). By the evening I was more tired than I should have been and just wanted to curl up in the corner. I slept like a log and feel pretty much 100% this morning. My arm is slightly sore if I poke at it and that's about it.

I don't think there's any hard and fast rule. In my case, pretty mild side effects and pretty similar.
