Anyone been/going?

I went to the Newcastle gig and boy what a night! Even by Iron Maiden's High Bar of Metal Stereotyping, they really did Turn It Up To 11. Almost full scale Spitfire flying overhead, amazing stage sets with a huge Icarus model with moving arms/wings and an oversized Eddie the 'ead / Devil rising up from behind the drum kit. To top it all, Dickinson with wrist-mounted flame throwers.

Bonkers, great set list, great crowd. Top stuff.

Thought about it. When did ticket prices get so expensive? I'm far too tight with my cash to spend £100 (ticket plus fuel) for a night out.

Support act KillSwitch Engage are also worth a listen, been a fan of theirs for years. Cracking support for Maiden, a more contemporary genre of metal but its heavily flavored with the good times metal for yore. Jealous of all attending!

Going next week to the Birmingham show!

Chuffed to bits that Killswitch Engage are supporting too, not seen them for years, and not since Jesse Leach rejoined.

As a rule you can sometimes  sell the tickets on twickets. Definitely worth a check.

Just checked captain slow and there are two on there so you might be in luck. Definitely worth a try.

Was tempted to go to Newcastle, but I've been given the impression Iron Maiden gigs are a bit hit and miss, just from speaking to people who've been in the past. Wish I never opened this thread now.

Saw them in Newcastle and also going to Aberdeen tomorrow. They were beyond awesome. One of the best gigs I've ever seen. Totally over the top stage show, great setlist, a band at the height of their powers musically and a lead singer still in great voice and who must have sweated off buckets with his manic leaping around.

If there are still tickets for any of the shows I would totally recommend it. Expect your ears to be ringing for a couple of days after though!!

Yeah I was tempted to go to Manchester too but money is a bit tight at the moment and I can't really justify it.

It certainly was a long, long way from my first ever gig – the Beast On The Road tour at Bradford St George's Hall which was the first tour with Dickinson on vocals. £2.75 a ticket back then.

Yeah - gutted I never saw them with DiAnno on vocals but still, I have got to see them a great many times (back in the day I would go to two or three gigs on the same tour). I even managed to get my denim jacket signed by the whole band on the Powerslave Tour (World Slavery). I was gutted though because my mate that I was with that day had an original sketch of the band that his girlfriend had done and he was invited backstage by Steve Harris and was handed further backstage passes as he was going to another gig on the tour. 🙂

Saw them on Friday at the o2; what an unbelievable experience.

Chuffed to bits that Killswitch Engage are supporting too, not seen them for years, and not since Jesse Leach rejoined.

They were good to watch, especially when they were joined on stage by Howard Jones for Rose of Sharyn.  Well chuffed about that.

Never been ‘into’ their music but figured they must be worth seeing before they retired. So had a look on the web, discovered they were touring, then saw there were tickets available a week before the Birmingham gig on the 7th. Arrived to discover I had a front row seat on the first tier, about five metres from the stage, on the side Bruce mostly sang from.

It was an incredible gig, easily the most energetic band I’ve seen; amazing that Bruce was 60 years old that day and was singing so well and running and jumping from stages to speakers. The stage backdrops were like something out of a theatre show: the spitfire hanging above the stage, the trooper sword fight, the spot light on Bruce during ‘Fear of the Dark’ and his silhouette; when he was roaming around with the flame thrower. The guitar solos were immense. The crowd singing ‘Happy Birthday’ and Bruce’s intro were also a nice touch.

They were on fire in Aberdeen. Best I have seen them since Twickenham 2008.

Up the irons!

bit jealous.

Saw them 3 or 4 years ago - they were amazing, but i thought the stage show was a bit weak (basically the stage was empty so there was room for the giant remote controlled robot. Which was cool but it only came out a few times!).  and they didn't play Number Of The Beast.

They were still awesome though, and Bruce is an absolute legend.

Incidentally, Bruce fans may wish to check out this -  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6481232/ - saw it the other month. Amazing story.

I'm reminded by the OP of that thing they say about the feedback British people will give you if they've tried a new restaurant - they'll tell you about the service, the price and the portion sizes. But not the quality of the food.

Wrist mounted flamethrowers do admittedly sound very cool, but did they play good?

EDIT:

They were on fire in Aberdeen.

Maybe on reflection the flamethrowers weren't the best idea.

Didn't he used to be in Take That?

Went to the O2 show on Friday - not a huge Iron Maiden fan but thought it was worth seeing them while we could, and they were superb. Like a heavy metal musical with all the set and costume changes, but if I had half the energy of Bruce Dickinson by the time I'm 60 I'd be happy.

First time I'd been to a "ticketless" concert - once through the security gates, someone swipes the credit card you paid for them with and prints out a slip with a reminder of your seat numbers. I guess it helps make life difficult for the touts.

Went to the Saturday gig at the O2, where their usual exceptional standard. Highlight was actually when KSE brought on Howard to sing 'The End of Heartache'. That was pretty damn special.

I've not seen the Irons since Donnington/Fear of the Dark.

As a fan of their 80s stuff in particular, but being a bit to young to have seen it, I'm ****in gutted to have missed this!

Yeah, the Birmingham show was stunning - the performance, the set list, the stage show, the atmosphere. The band are all amazing, but Bruce is a bit of a god. I'd like a fraction of the energy he has at 60 right now tbh!

Set list below!

1. Aces High

2. Where Eagles Dare

3. 2 Minutes To Midnight

4. The Clansman

5. The Trooper

6. Revelations

7. For The Greater Good Of God

8. The Wicker Man

9. Sign Of The Cross

10. Flight Of Icarus

11. Fear Of The Dark

12. The Number Of The Beast

13. Iron Maiden

Encore:

14. The Evil That Men Do

15. Hallowed Be Thy Name

16. Run To The Hills

I've never seen a bad Maiden show. Every one I've been to has been exceptional... with the exception of the first - it was on the X-Factor tour, with Blaze Bayley. They'd been demoted to playing smaller venues like the Wolverhampton Civic. Poor Blaze, he just didn't really fit.
