I have a 6s which is purely used for listening to music. It is nearly full up and is getting a bit clunky.
Have been offered an iPod touch with a larger memory. Having a lesser iOS I am assuming it will be even clunkier than the iPhone.
Due to it not having to do as much as an iPhone would it be ok?
probably, but why are you not just streaming from your current phone?
It’s radio shows and they are only available for a month
Clunkier in what way, exactly?
Due to it not having to do as much as an iPhone would it be ok?
Due to it being designed as a music and video player, it does what it’s supposed to do; however as it runs iOS it will do what an iPhone does if it’s got a wifi connection; you should be able to do web browsing and VOIP calls.
Whether that makes it ‘clunky’ is another matter. Perhaps the fact that the phone’s ten years old might be an indication that the poor thing is just suffering the tech device equivalent of Alzheimer’s, and the Touch just doing the one thing, and possibly not having been used for search or anything else it hasn’t built up all the cruft that phones, computers etc that do multiple things tend to do, would let it run more smoothly.
The fact that the Touch has more memory is a major positive in itself, you won’t be able to stream stuff that’s loaded into the Library but not actually downloaded, but from my own experience, that’s a problem that the phone suffers from anyway, if there’s no decent network connection - I discovered the other day, while trying to locate a shop in Bath, that parts of the City near the centre don’t even have a 3G phone service! Seeing a little ‘E’ was like going back ten years. 🤨
I think the Touch has a lot of benefits over a decade-old device that *might* run better if wiped and the OS reinstalled, but you’re coming back to the smaller amount of actual storage so, yeah the Touch would be a nice thing to have.
I think I’ve still got my old iP6+ kicking around somewhere, but it couldn’t cope with my music library - I’m hoping the rumours are correct about the next iPhone having 2Tb of actual storage… 😉
According to wikipedia the iPhone 6s runs iOS 15 - which is still getting security updates- but the iPod touch 6 only runs iOS 12 which is no longer supported. I'd not be surprised if you're unable to install the radio app that you want on the iPod touch.
Just use something else more up to date. Like a laptop, iPad or whatever you have.
