Anyone have one? Any good? My Ipod Nano is getting a bit long in the tooth and was looking at one of these to replace it. Is there much too choose between the different generations?
I'm still using a G1. But you'd want the latest, they've got got a lot more going.
I got the latest version for Christmas and it's lovely. Basically an iphone 5 without the phone bit.
It replaced a 2nd gen one I may be selling if you're interested 😉
I've had mine nearly 12 months now and I'm very pleased with it. Great if you travel a lot as much more convenient that a laptop or Ipad.
Get one with the biggest number of gb as you can afford.
I have one. My only complaint would be the battery life. I don't know if it's something I'm doing wrong, I have hardly any apps on it, but I can go to bed with it fully charged and it's half done by the time I wake up in the morning!
Tried switching it off, putting it into airplane mode, disabling notifications....and it make no difference. It needs to be on charge cobstantly. Is that normal?
^ no
Google 'iPhone/iPod battery saver recommendations for tips to help cos that ain't normal
but dont be suckered into thinking you need an app for that ......
how old is it - id be heading to the genius bar with it if its not that old. if its old then id assume your batterys chemistry is dying
how old is it
It's brand new.
5 is quite a bit better than the 4 it replaced. The screen is most noticeably on the 'surface' of the device and you literally touch the icons whereas on the 4 the screen was definitely 'below' the surface only by a small amount but it makes a difference to the overall experience.
Good deals on the 4 but the 5 is better it's a really nice device. iPod 5 optimised apps (most of them now) are glorious.
Be aware that whatever size you go for 1GB or more will be taken up by the OS
got an apple store near by - go see genius tech - likely youll get a new one or they will explain what your are doing wrong at least.
if you dont then email/phone customer services and explain. probably get a similar service by snail mail.
apple have been pretty good when it comes to support for me.
Cheers everybody, this could be just the thing 🙂
Just another question, how does it compare to things like the kindle fire etc and is there anything else out there like it?
Aside from the battery issue I have it's pretty neat.
As for alternatives, there's the Samsung Galaxy S Wifi.
YK, up for a morning ride on tues or wed? Uncovered a smashing woodland descent up fairlie moor last week, over 1k long, was up wi the chainsaw on Saturday to clear all the windfall.
my girlfriends slowely growing to hate her kindle fire for anything more than reading - initially she loved it but the more she uses it the more cursing she does.
screen appears to be out of calibration - but cannot find anyway to calibrate it.
its about as intuitive to use as linux.
Another question, could I connect this to my home cinema processor and watch films via love film etc?

Well, trying to stuff a Kindle Fire in your trouser pocket and walk around listening to music may prove to have a few issues...
Also, the Touch has a maximum of 64Gb capacity, which means lots of music can be carried with you.
The Sony equivalent may well be worth looking at, well designed and made, but has nothing like the range of apps that the Touch has access to.
I have nexus 7 on loan from work son has ipod touch
I think the ipod touch really does what you want. Its a music player with games ans tuff as well
A 7 inch tablet is huge. Just no way pocket size. unless you want to media stream to a telly a general Android tablet trumps a colur kindle
I've often thought a 5 inch tablet would be an OK compromise. Better browsing but would still go in a pocket. These look good but 8gb isn't enough

I have a generation 4 ipod touch. Great quality screen, use it for much more than I expected I would, including personal emails, web browsing, films, music, loads of handy apps (weather one being particularly useful at the moment).
I bought it primarily for music, but glad I went for a touch as it does so much more that I find useful, especially whilst away with work. I use itunes and am quite happy with it, but it is not to everyone's liking.
Edit: I also have an apple TV (circa £100), which allows me to stream both music and video direct to my tv. I use this loads to play music as I have decent speakers hooked up to the gogglebox.
I have a 4 Gen Ipod touch which has been ace. I'm sure the newer ones are great too.
yep watch movies play music even read magazines on it use it for internet when near wifi i can watch 2 movies with airplane mode on and on 2 thirds brightness got a cheap i pod charger off flebay that ill put another half charge on the battrey.
i think my ipods the second-last version and i would appreciate the extra screen size of the new version, especially when it comes to games such as 'fifa' and 'dead trigger', not to mention all those cool music apps.
i was surprised at the amount of memory it used to store music and podcasts and some of the apps are 1gb in size.
because of the bluetooth it can be connected to portable satellite receivers and you can buy gadgets such as 'mi-fi' that allow internet use where there is a 3g connection.
thoroughly recommended, unless you are also considering an ipad mini!
I think you need completely to discharge the battery on i-devices once a month and then completely recharge them to get the best battery life - I was told this by Apple Support and it seems to work.
Love the iPod Touch and the iPad.
If you want to stream movies or iPlayer to your television and don't have Apple TV then get a Composite or Component AV Cable(check which you need - one's red white and yellow and one's red blue and green) or get an HDMI adapter and you're good to go.
