As above...my iphone 5 is dying a slow death and ive got the option to 'upgrade' for free to either an SE or a 6 - can anyone comment on which is a better phone for general use facetime, browsing, social media, photosetc?

One has a bigger screen, one is smaller.

Same software.

I had a 6 which I gave to my daughter and replaced it with an SE. As above in terms of functionality no difference so it’s  more down to your preference on screen size.

I’ve found the SE more fiddly after going to a larger screen but I didn’t like the bulk of the 6.

If you like your 5 and don’t need anything bigger then the SE, I hated my 6s size wise when I upgraded from a 5. I did grew to accept it but it was the worst phone I owned for no real reason.

I reckon the SE and the iphone 6 are probably at the end of there ios life in terms of upgrading the software. I think when ios 11 came along the iphone 6 was essentially minimum requirement so with ios 12 coming next month you may not get the new ios or you will but it wont work as well. I would try and get a 7 so there is a bit more life/support in it.

Are you sure it’s not a 6S? 6 isn’t sold any more.

SE has the functional guts of a 6S, so it’s a little faster than the older 6. I believe the SE has a slightly longer battery life - smaller, but less screen area to power.

iOS12 apparently will install on iPhone 5 (2013) and later. For the curious, you can install the Beta version if you sign up to Apple.

SE is definitely better than the 6, unless you really want that larger screen.

Try to avoid the 16gb version as its a bit limited

I’ve had an SE for ages and am due to replace it - any rumours about a replacement version from Apple? As above it’s the perfect size for me.

Thanks for the help folks!

Blader unfortunately the budget won't stretch to a 7 on my price plan.

Drlex the 6 is definitely the option not the 6S unfortunately.

Nothing wrong with the 6(S)! Just the right size, I reckon. Most phones are a lot bigger now and the SE is teeny!

I've never updated mine to IOS11 and it just keeps working like a new phone. Battery life is excellent too.

I would wait til September/October, its usually when they launch new Iphones, and its associated price restructuring.  Also as others have said, the 6 is definitely at the end of its cycle.

Are they not about to release a new SE version?

As above, it's just the size. I prefer the 6/7 as i have lovely big man hands, grrrr.

Mrs Sandwicheater has small lady hands and prefers the SE.

So the question is, do you have manly hands or lady hands?

Another SE user here. Always had Android in the past, switched to the SE due to wanting a smaller phone without compromising performance. The SE has been awesome! By and far the best handset I've had. I'll be keeping hold until the new SE is announced.

I’ve got a 5 personal phone which is basically on its last legs, and a 6 work phone. The 6 wins hands down for me. The screen is far superior. As for the additional “bulk”, we’ll its larger for sure, but slimmer so I don’t think it’s bulkier at all. Fits nicely in the pocket with no unsightly bulge and the camera is far better than the 5, so not sure if the SE has the camera from the 5 or 6, but the camera on the 6 is good enough to not bother with a ‘proper’ camera for normal point and shoot duties. With my 5 I always kept my stand alone camera on hand, but not used it since I got my work 6.

if you decide on 6 then just go straight for the 6S. Not even sure if you can still get the 6. We couldn’t through EE when my wife was looking for an upgrade. The 6 was discontinued according to them.

SE is the 6S chipset in the smaller iPhone 5 body. Quite a bit quicker than a 6, and still coping just fine with current iOS and apps. It's about the only good phone out there if you want a smaller device, Android stuff at this size is terrible. Oh, and everything from 5S onwards is getting iOS12 so the SE will good for a while to come yet.

If you're happy with the size of your 5 and just wish for something newer and faster then the SE is it.

I'm amused to see how many of my friends and acquaintances have independently chosen the SE over the larger-screen alternatives. Yet it's supposed to be the old-style model, under threat of non-replacement. Well maybe we are all old-fashioned but it fits in a pocket a lot easier and if your eyesight is reasonable it's no problem to use.

Main reason I went back to apple after a brief flirtation with android which I quite liked was the complete absence of small android phones.

As above though a new SE is due soon if rumours are to be believed (though there were also rumours about it being discontinued, so who knows).

Out of the two I’d go SE, 6 is getting slow now and as above SE is 6S spec.

Personally though if budget is a concern their are better VFM phones on android.

Many good deals on Pixle2 yet? It’s end of life and spec wise comparable with iPhone 7/8 I’d say.

I've got sod all interest in my work phone which is a SE but the battery life is way better than my 6 ..something.

This by itself is a huge plus.... the screen can feel a bit tiny after the 6 but it also takes a FLAT screen protector which is another bonus.

I have no interest in upgrading to anything thinner and specifically nothing without a headphone jack...

The size of the 6 (something) makes for a better Sat Nav in the car but the SE would probably be better on the bike!

I don't really use work phone for photo's ... (except work ones) so that might be one factor?

P-jay I had thought of a shift to android but all my family is on iphones and given I live 'abroad' it makes more sense from a messaging, photo sharing, facetime point of view.

I bought my se outright for £229 from gif gaff and pay £6 a month sim only. Very pleased, I wanted the smaller phone as I use a waterproof case which bulks it up a bit.

^ now even cheaper @ £199:

Hoping for an SE2 announcement in a couple of weeks, as I too like the small form factor.

My folks live in the strange land of ‘abroad’ too. Tbh we use WhatsApp for all of the above.

If you have had it from new have you been in to Apple with it? They are often extremely helpful and regularly offer discount upgrades if they can't solve your issue.

I wouldn't "upgrade' to either of those phones unless you are paying less than £15 month

For those interested in such trivial rumours, here is the link to a respected site which outlines the release dates and new versions of the iPhone
