Second time I've tried to do it myself and second time I've **** it up. Not going to try again. Without going to apple has anyone paid a company to replace their iPhones battery?

Not yet, but my iP4's battery is showing its age, although I only use it as an iPod and satnav in the car, along with some web browsing and radio streaming; I had it unlocked and got a 3 SIM for the unlimited data, which is what's killing the battery. I've been quoted £25 by a business in one of our little shopping precincts, so I'm going to take it to them. If they screw it up I can bitch about it to their face!
IIRC, a battery on its own is around £19.

is it a 4 or a 3

i fail to see how you managed to **** up a 4.

count - the 4 is seriously just 2 small phillips OR pentalobe screws depending on the age. the back cover slides down a small bit then lifts off

then its just a case of using the tyre lever type thing to lever the battery out - i was learning as i went and being real careful and even then it was only 10 minutes in and out ready to use again.

I can believe folk screwed up the 3g though as its a nightmare the whole phone damn near has to come apart from the front.

my battery was 6.99 off ebay and has been absolutely fine for a year now.

+1 on the iphone4. £4 odd on eBay for the battery and tools, 3 screws and a bit of gentle prizing.

Take it to apple, I did the same with my iPhone 4 when the battery finally gave up, they gave me a brand spanking 4S for £55.

Well, turns out I've ****ed the motherboard so I now have to shift it on eBay as spares or repair. I am a tit. This is the second one I've knackered by trying to fix it myself.

I've had the Wifes 3GS apart to replace the battery & charging connector. Can't say it was any more involved than wiring a plug. Few good videos in YouTube walk you through it.
I had to reorder the battery as the first one would'nt come on. I just searched EBay for one with a matching code.

Changing a battery on my 4S was a doddle!
