Has anyone had one changed at an Apple Store? They charge a bit less than many of the third party suppliers (£86.44) and presumably use genuine components? Can they really do it while you wait though?

I think they transfer your data to another phone and give you that, then send off for a proper repair rather than do it out the back. Thats what happened to me last time

I wondered if that was the case. I found a company that will come to the office and do it in front of me but they want £104. I think I'd rather have genuine parts though and save a bit of money.

I would, also if there are further issues then it's under apples warranty not a 3rd parties

Getting one done at the Apple Store tomorrow (girlfriends phone smashed)

They said they will supply a new phone (refurb/return) and fix/refurb hers later.

Don't understand why anyone would go third party and pay more for a lesser service, and invalidate the warranty at the same time ?

Yes, well I was surprised when I checked out how much Apple charge. So do I get my original phone back at some stage?

£80 if you go in store. I was quoted £60 yesterday by a 3rd party and given its out of warranty soon, I drop it off easier than Apple Store I'm tempted.

I did a bit of a search on Amazon and Ebay - it seems a lot of the 3rd party guys get their bits and bobs that way which makes me suspect the quality may be variable. I read about tales of funny colours, uneaven lighting, peeling glass and so on. I think I'll spend the extra few quid on travel and get Apple Store to do it.

Had mine done at Apple store Meadowhall and it was an hour turnaround so quick wander around shops and all sorted and it was my phone that they gave me back with new screen in

Usually they just swap the lcd and reprogram the home button. Especially if you tell them it's not backed up.

Went in to get it done today (apple shop Leeds)

Sat down for 2 minutes, new phone and off we went.

The best thing about it, cost nothing!

The guy said that the phone was "bent" (with a slight wink) and that was covered under warranty.
Didn't ask any questions, just took the new phone, said thank you, and left.

You won't get that sort of service at a third party repairer 😉

Happy days.

Snap same experience here, also at Meadowhall. You have to book a Genius Bar appointment in advance though, and stick to the time, just pop in your unlikely to get it done whilst you wait
Also went in just before Xmas with a water damaged phone, he went out back to check it out came back and said "yes it's f*cked but the moisture sensors haven't all tripped and it's Christmas so here's a brand new one under warranty"

Well I have to say I'm terrifically impressed with Apple. I booked into the apple shop at Meadowhall for a repair. They replaced the screen for £79 but were not totally happy with the phone so they gave me a brand new phone instead for the same price!

Cracked screen, Genius Bar appointment at Leicester Apple Store, they decided it was a warranty repair as no other damage to phone (6S) Collected an hour later - perfect service!
