So had various iphones but always way behind the times as you can see, but really getting fed up with it and looking to change to android, nothing too flashy or huge, but something the equivalent to the 5S, any suggestions please as I've never looked at the android market before really.

Budget?

What do you like about the S5?  What do you dislike about it?

Best budget android phone that punches well above its price tag:

That's what all the reviews said when I recently looked for a new phone. I now have it & like it. Looked at buying from China and via eBay & then settled for John Lewis (was £180 a couple of weeks ago) with their 2 year warranty.

I Should have said budget probably around the £200 mark, but have no problems with buying secondhand, in fact all my smart phones have been secondhand and on Sim only deals.

I like the size of the 5S, maybe go a bit bigger but not after a huge screen, but don't like the fact that I thought the battery was knackered, had a replacement fitted recently and it's not much better, have since found out the recent software updates are killing the older phone batteries apparently. But more importantly the network coverage on both mine and the wife's iphones in the house is rubbish, almost non existent, yet our lads Moto E is excellent, all on the same network.

I've just got myself a Nokia 8 a couple of days ago. £220 from John Lewis. So far it's excellent, bit bigger than the 5S but not as big as a lot of phones these days and a nice shape make it feel smaller to hold.

Camera probably not as good as the 5S though if that's a priority.

I just bought one of those and I'm  happy with it. There's a fair bit of bezel top and bottom so it's quite tall but a good shape. I found it slippy though so I got a cheap case for it which sorted that.

Compact android = Sony XZ1 Compact.

I've the XZ1 and it's better than my Moto G6 from work in my opinion.

They were on daft cheap sale last week - I'm paying £15/MTH with a few calls texts and 1gb.

Had a Galaxy Note 3 that expired. Bought one of these and it has everything the Note had and more. Costs under £300 but there is £100 trade in against any phone at a Samsung outlet. Worth looking at.

I’d second the A8 recommendation.

I’ve got a dual sim version almost a year ago and it’s excellent. Waterproof too, so no worries when out cycling and it’s raining.

Battery life is great. No stress when iPhone users are panicking about where they can get a top up!

Any Samsung software seems to be good-I use the Samsung browser, email and calendar apps as defaults.

Compact android = Sony XZ1 Compact.

This, or even the X Compact for the most relevant sub-5" Android phones. The X Compact is much less powerful on paper (also cheaper), but I couldn't tell the difference in regular, non-intensive use.

But for someone coming from a 5s, I would also look at the SE. It's like a way better 5s; still an iPhone, though. Ideally, a 32+GB variant on iOS 10.3.3.

I've recently done similar, went from an iphone 5s to a Moto G5. A bit bigger, but a far better phone/device.

£120 from Argos when I bought it. I sold the 5S for £60.
