Need two new phones for me and wife. Tossing up between SE and 11. Anyone experience of both who can help me between. Coming from and old SE (her) and 6S (me) I fancy the flight bigger size but not sure it’s worth the £100 more.
Anyone ???
Thanks
Sean
I have 11pro personal and SE work phones.
The 11pro is better (camera, Bluetooth just a bit better - though I’m not sure the specs say it should be).
However if it’s just a phone, WhatsApp and Amazon terminal either’s fine.
I have an 11 as my personal phone and a SE as my work phone.
Screen is much bigger on the 11, this is good if you occasionally watch a movie on it whilst on the train or something.
Face ID vs Touch ID - Touch ID is better whilst wearing a mask.
In use there isn't any difference aside from things like the keyboard being a bit smaller.
The camera on the 11 is apparently better but I don't use the camera on the SE so I can't really compare.
If size is an issue, have a look at the 12 Mini.

We got new phones last year: I went for a refurb XR and my wife went for a 2nd gen SE.
Internally they're pretty similar, so the 11 will be faster than the SE. I really appreciate the bigger screen and the SE feels small now, but in mask-wearing times I really miss TouchID...
If you use the phone for just basic stuff then the SE will be fine, but if the bigger size is a pro rather than a con I'd pay the extra.
i have 12 mini, that replaced an Xs. I'm a big fan of the mini.
I picked the Xs up the other day and it felt like a massive brick of a phone.
Another big fan of the Mini series here. I recently went from an 8 to a 13 Mini and it's brilliant. SE is basically an updated 8, so is not bad, but the 11 will be better overall and the bigger screen is nice, but for me, the 12/13 Mini are the sweet spot at the moment. Perfect size, great screens, great cameras and new enough that they will be supported with the latest updates for years to come. More money again compared to the 11, but worth it IMO.
Got an SE work phone and XR. SE is a PITA. Tiny screen in comparison - certainly feels like it, and lack of Face ID is a small annoyance, but one you notice every single time you pick up the phone to use it - so maybe 50 - 100 times a day. For larger screen size and Face ID alone the 11 would be worth it for me. All the other stuff is just academic really and stuff you wont really notice.
£100 isn't much int he grand scheme of things...I manage to eek out a good 5 years or so out of an iPhone so £100 over 5 years is nothing vs the convenience of the use of the phone.
12 mini here, flagship tech in a compact very light package (like myself)
similar to above, pick up my old X and it feels like a brick, yet the mini has the same screen 'real estate' and much faster etc etc
not specific answer to your Q I realise. My dad has SE, screen feels tiny and outdated. Maybe not something you care about! Go to an apple / phone store.
went from 8plus (too big for pockets) to 2020 SE.
after 1.5yrs i loved the small size, but tiny screen for my old eyes and fat fingers, and terrible battery life, meant me getting a 13pro recently.
my god what a difference. on the 11 you will notice the amazingly better screen, manageable size and massively better battery life. Face ID I have on my iPad and I must admit I'm not convinced it's much easier than finger ID, but I love the edge to edge screen and do not miss the home button for any other function.
The SE and 11 have the same processor they should perform near enough identically, its down to screen size and quality, camera and touch vs Face ID. Personally I much prefer touch ID and find Face ID hit or miss and its unless with a mask.
Thanks so much ! 11 it is !!
Can anyone tell me now why I have to sign into STW EVERY BLOODY TIME regardless of whether I tick stay logged in ??????
If you have an Apple Watch then FaceID works with a mask just fine.
It lowers the amount of face it needs to see (so just above the mask) and unlocks if it recognises your eyes and your watch is unlocked on your wrist.
Is it possible on the new SE to turn the Face ID off? I have the old SE & just use a password. Don't fancy upgrading if it means messing with Face ID!
The SE doesn't have Face ID
Ah thanks -- OK can the Touch ID be turned off?

there is no messing? you pick the phone up, it unlocks. if it doesn't then it asks you for a passcode.
it really does just work*..
*obviously not if it isnt fitted...

Well, you can just not set it up. I can't imagine why you'd not want to use whatever biometrics your phone offers though.

Interesting to hear, I have the XS and fancied the 12mini but wasnt sure how much smaller it was in real life or if it warranted getting another 2year contract for god knows what each month vs keeping the XS and being pay monthly for pittance... maybe when the battery dies I'll look at it
Thanks All. Think I will get a new SE. Some of us don't need biometrics cos we don't store anything sensitive on it & its an extra FAF like two factor et al. I miss My Palm Treo! LOL
significantly smaller than the Xs but in a good way.
way better screen than the SE as its full coverage rather than big black bands top/bottom.

There’s no faff, it’s easier to login with a thumb print than typing in a password 🤷♂️
I have been really happy with me SE until I upgraded to IOS 15.
if your SE comes with IOS 14 don’t update it!
12 Mini for me. I think Giffgaff had them for £539 new earlier this week but gone now. there should be some deals though given the release of the 13. I came from a second gen SE that I really liked but had to give back - I would've swapped like for like but glad I got the 12 Mini instead as its faster, has Face-ID + bigger screen and a really decent camera, all things that mattered.

Yep, touch ID is the simplest and easiest way to unlock a phone so far invented (well Face ID was possibly better till we all started wearing masks...)

Don’t knock it til you’ve tried it grandad. You can even type messages and then send them through fresh air!!
