Hi All

Does anybody know how to copy files from an iPad2 to a pc, without using iTunes? A mate has a load of photo's on his iPad that I want to get a copy of, but if I plug his iPad into my PC and load itunes, I understand it may delete all of his content?

I've tried using touchcopy - a free trial worked on my iPod, but when I connected the iPad, touchcopy couldn't see the iPad connected.

Email isn't really an option as the files are pretty big and there are lots of them.

Any ideas?

Cheers

you'll only delete all his content if you have itunes' sync settings wrong. make sure the settings state that you never delete and it should be fine.

otherwise dropbox or other similar apps are good.

What would using a cloud involve doing?

I'm really surprised that such a simple task can be a pain in the backside to be honest!

Clubber - so if I connect using iTunes, will it let me download from iPad to PC, even though it is my pc, and not his?

Also, is there any issue with the iPad being registered to more than one pc?

also iirc if you just USB it to a PC it should show the pics as a removeable drive...

I plugged in the USB, and it did recognise it as a camera. As far as I could see though, it would only let me see the photos taken using the iPad camera. The photos I'm after (wedding photos), were taken with a separate camera and transferred onto the iPad.

Cheers for all the responses so far - Drac, that photosync app looks promising.

Cheers

I'm not sure it is a pain if you move with the technology. If we think that the tablets work hand in hand with clouds so that they don't need internal memory, you can't expect a tablet to function like a laptop.
A cloud is simply a hard drive in the sky that can be accessed from any device that allows you to enter with an account and password.
iPad saves to the cloud account, your laptop accesses from the cloud account..
Another option would be to upload to a Flickr account, you both have access, the other then downloads the original file (as you would with a cloud).

Drac - I've had a quick look at reviews on youtube, and all the examples show transferring of files from the camera roll. If you install it, could you just double check that a photo you have downloaded / taken with a different camera than the iPad camera can be transferred, and let me know?

Cheers

Yeah anything on the camera roll goes across, I used an image I downloaded from the internet that was on my camera roll and went over. You select as many or as few as you want, even goes to dropbox.

£1.49 it's cost but it'll go one my iPad2 and my iPhone so nice easy syncing between them and my computers.

Cool, just to be 100% sure then (I'm not a frequent iPad user), photos in the camera roll will include photos taken with the iPad, images downloaded from the web, AND images transferred onto the iPad, that were taken on a different camera ?

Cheers for your help!

Yeah it's just like a folder on a PC and photosync finds the folders and then the images so you can use any pic.
