In “tidying up” my wife has just managed to smash my iPad Pro screen.
Apple seem to want 600 gbp to repairs which would suggest it is toast and time for a new one …
Or is a MacBook Air a better choice ( usual home stuff and some volunteer work gets done on it).
And yes, I would like it to be Apple
Thanks
which iPad pro is it ?
House insurance?

WTF!!!
Obviously there is also the option of a High Street repair shop but my limited experience hasn't been great (we ended up having my wife's iPhone re-fixed by Apple as the touch screen was dodgy but a previous fix of an iPad was successful - that was about eight years ago and it still works properly). They would also be considerably cheaper than £600 and I might have just been unlucky with the phone.
Got a 12” iPad Pro and a M1 MacBook Air. The iPad is really nice if you’re using the pencil for graphics etc. Mrs DB prefers the MacBook as she prefers a keyboard.

I bought Mrs K one from the US. Albeit an Air, the friendly lady said this was the rears the $80 lifetime screen insurance was worth having, even more so for the Air as they have to replace the whole unit and can't replace the screen*
*so she said.
It's a Gen 2 12.9 iPad pro that I have had for 4 or so years.
The 649 GBP is the apple figure I have been given - I have no doubt I can get it done down the local iPhone screen repair shop but the phone screen replacement was an 8/10 rather than a 10/10.
If it really going to cost that much it is then whether it is viable of a "old" iPad - hence the question.
It sounds to me like you are hankering after a new toy (I'd probably risk the High Street shop repair myself).
Whether a new iPad or an Air is best for you I couldn't say but I'd rather have an Air. Then of course you could sell the broken iPad on Ebay or whatever (assuming you can factory reset it via the device itself or via another linked device).
Book an appointment with a 'Genius' at an Apple store and lay it on thick about how you love their products and you're utterly heartbroken that it's been broken. If the planets align they might give you a new one.

Nope - I really don't want to. I would rather get this repaired - but I may take the Cougar route of laying it on thick and see what they offer ...
Off to book a Genius appointment

Please do come back and tell us how you get on 😂
Replacement screen done locally 480 - 510. I guess I will see what Apple have to say
That is a royal piss take... The OE screen costs no more than about £150 so they are charging about £300 labour for a 1 hour job.
I'd just buy a new laptop.
If you have Sky TV get Sky Protect insurance. For £10 pm all your telly boxes are covered as well as two other items. They replaced my ipad Air with a new one after a screen crack.
looks like an insurance claim
Apple will give me a "new" gen 2 for 459 + VAT
They are recommending not mending the screen - and it would be 550 GBP anyway
Music Magpie for a used 12.9 Pro 2020 - just got my daughter one for only a couple of hundred more than Apple's quote for a screen.

Please do. My ex swung a brand spanker iPhone out of them. The Genius geniusly told us exactly the phrase to say to allow him to give us a new one.
I got the impression that they have a quota for allocation of free stuff and leeway to apply an attitude filter.
Not a chance
I laid it on thick - phones may be one thing IPad Pro is a different territory.
I think!
