So I have bought the wife an iPad mini for her birthday in a couple of days.
I've always owned/worked on Macs and have my own iPad which is in sync with the Imac.
I don't want share iTunes/cloud accounts so how do I get all her contacts/email addresses from her aging 3g iPhone onto the new iPad? Her phone has never been plugged into the iMac so it only asks to blank the phone or update from my back up, which of course doesn't have her contacts.
Any help greatly received!

use icloud on her phone to her ipad on her appleid?
The software is old on her phone with no icloud
When I plugged it in to udate that's when it said reformat as new phone or update from mine
Yeah, just set her up a new account and enable cloud sync on the iphone, ensure contacts etc are all set with cloud sync turned on.
Do the same thing on the ipad afterwards and it'll just download everything.
EDIT: missed your last post as I typed, it won't work if you don't have icloud on the old iphone as you mention. Best bet might be to create a new user account on your mac for her, then there will be a seperate instance of itunes available for her phone & ipad. Then as long as it's 3gs or newer you can update the phone to have icloud. I don't know if you can directly back the contacts up to itunes and then re-import them to an ipad.
Cheers Nic
I did think of setting up a new log in for her. Seems the best option. Think it's just a 3g (not S)

You should be be able to backup it as a separate phone then update it and recover, then install icloud.
I have 2 phones, an iPad and iTouch backed up on my Mac.
On the same theme As I have just got the missus a mini and want to put all the music from my Itunes on it but dont know how
Trout you can drag and drop from your computer or sign in with your account and download through iTunes purchased on the ipad.
I could easily be wrong, but I'm pretty sure you won't need iCloud for initial set-up. Just connect the phone and set up an account for that phone then do a back-up, then connect the pad and set it up to that account and set it up from the iPhone 3 back-up. It's what I did with my iPad, then I either deleted those apps that weren't needed, or updated those that had an iPad alternative.
