iPhone 4s but currently no sim in iPad.
O2 are going to send me microsim for the iPad.
So, is there any way to avoid buying data package for the iPad?

Yes. If you can tether with your package
Will have personal hotspot in settings if you do, can do wifi but I tend to do Bluetooth between iPad/iPhone, uses less battery
jam bo has it right. My iPhone is on 3 which has unlimited data so I use use Personal Tethering on the iPhone and connect to it via Bluetooth.
Works perfectly.

Careful though, most of the networks don't let you tether on your inclusive data
I think O2 include it in the newer tariffs. It's crazy they don't, I pay for data, how I use it should be up to me.
Yep O2 do allow it on their recent tariffs. I switched to one to use it.
Ended up paying the same per month for twice the data allowance (1GB) and half the calls (which I never use).
