I want a tablet and the latest Ipad seems to tick all the boxes

But before I take the plunge is there anything else I should be considering for £300?

I'm not wedded to Apple although I do have an Iphone and an old Macbook

But don't mind Android

The Android tablet market these days is all older, now overpriced stuff or cheap underspecced rubbish churned out at minimum cost. Windows ones are terrible at that price point too. The Amazon tablets are OK if you don't mind being tied into them.

Buy the iPad.

Can't speak for stylus support on other tablets, but I think the new iPad supports the Apple Pencil which is expensive (obviously) but very good.

get a chrome book  - the latest have the ability to run android apps. Also have a flip screen, so you can use them as tablets

Paging resident Apple haters!

android tablets are mostly cheap underpowered affairs useful mainly for light browsing and Netflix. If you want to do “stuff” on it then the galaxy tab s4 is meant to be good.

Windows have launched the surface go, it gets good reviews but the cheaper on is underpowered.

If you have an iPhone and MacBook, I would buy an iPad. You won’t have to repurchase any paid for apps, your data syncs over super easy from an iPhone, and you can use all the continuity features within Mac OS.

Yes you can do all the same stuff, with an android tablet, but as your already using Apple stuff, it makes the process of moving stuff around / signing up easier. Oh and iMessage on a iPad is cool.

Some of the Huawei tablets seem to be decent spec. eg Huawei Mediapad M5 is about £300.

New iPad due in a month or two, I’d wait for that whatever you do and then either get the new one for the same or the current one for less

Got the Amazon one as it had loads of good reviews (lot cheaper than budget stated). It was replacing a first gen iPad mini which was running very slow. Browsing on the Amazon was much better but the c.5 year old iPad loads and plays videos quicker. I'd go new iPad if I was shopping again.

Yeah, new iPad Pros, these are going to cost way more than £300.  The iPad 2018 which I believe the op was talking about is unsurprisingly the latest "cheap" model.  For £320 the iPad is a steal imo and much better than anything in the Android space, save perhaps the Tab S4 which on price terms is more a competitor to the iPad Pro.
